Naija Need Show Way for ECOWAS Court Judgements

Abeg, make we yarn about wetin dey happen for ECOWAS Court matter wey sabi gree!

As e be, the President of ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Ricardo Gonçalves don talk how Nigeria suppose dey lead by example for the matter of enforcing court judgments. E don call out Naija make dem no dey slack as dis dey affect di whole of West Africa legal system.

Naija don dey receive serious wahala, as since dem establish di Court, 128 cases don dey inside dem, but only 66 don close. And you fit believe say just 10 don execute, while 52 still dey wait like say dem wan enter line for Oshoala concert! E be like say we dey unserious for this matter.

For Abuja, where di court president talk am, e don hammer on top di fact say if Naija fit sabi gree for di court judgment, e go boost di authority of di court, and e go ginger other countries to follow suit. Wetin be all dis nonchalance, sef? Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Justice Gonçalves talk say Nigeria no be just ordinary member; na dem sabi people wey don help build ECOWAS. Naija be di engine wey de push di whole region forward. But di way we go dey treat dem judgments no go help us at all.

He noted say di matter no be just about refusing to comply, but sey structural wahala dey affect our people. E mention serious issues like budget constraints, coordination problem, and some political gangan wey dey kink dem legal moves.

Also, our Attorney-General, Lateef Fagbemi, join matter dey complain say wetin dey happen no too make sense. E talk about di weak enforcement powers of di court and di way some states dey act like dem go fit dodge di judgments. How we wan make things work if we no dey take our legal responsibilities serious?

Fagbemi even drop some serious points about di lack of direct enforcement powers. Na only we dey make things happen based on goodwill from member states. How dem wan do dat when some governments dey fear politically sensitive decisions wey no fit doro pass linh?

On top all these wahala, our CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun don suggest say make ECOWAS Court come up with some guidelines wey go help member states comply with di judgments. This guideline go fit serve like common sense wey will help all di governments get di picture.

She don stress say di enforcement of judgments dey lie mostly with di executive arm of government, no be small thing. E good make dem develop standardized procedure for di whole enforcement talk better as we dey enter di 50 years of ECOWAS.

As e be now, dis be one chance wey we fit use to gather ourselves and reform di system. If we fit fix di enforcement wahala, e go biko biko hand us all di good things wey dey come for di region.
