Chai! Na real gbege dey unfold for national parks o! Lobbyists wey gatz to do with bottled water don dey fight back against ban wey dem impose since 2011 wey stop dem from selling disposable plastic water bottles. Na John Jarvis, the Park Service Director, na im first call for this ban, as e dey reason say plastic b ota dey wahala for our environment.
As the matter dey hot, House of Representatives don pass new bill wey dey try quench the fire wey Jarvis spark, and the lobbyists, especially from the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), don open mouth talk say this ban no go help public health. Dem say if people no fit buy bottled water, dem go resort to sugary drinks, wey fit make things worse. Na wah o!
People wey sabi the gist talk say national parks like Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore and Zion don dey do the right thing by no dey sell bottled water again, and dem dey even put more water refill stations wey no be single-use. Zion park alone don clear over 60,000 plastic bottles from dem waste, na serious saving be that!
But Rep. Keith Rothfus don vex for the matter, e even talk say families wey no sabi camping and hiking go dey suffer if dem no fit buy bottled water for park. E fit make sense, but wetin we go do about the wahala wey plastic dey cause? NPCA don also yarn say IBWA dey talk wetin no go help, cause dem dey think only of their pockets.
As if the matter no dey hard enough, new research don show say bottled water dey contain microplastics wey fit enter our body. E mean say if you dey sip that bottled water, you fit dey sip tiny tiny plastic particles wey no good for health. E be like say tap water get less plastic particles, so e clear that wey better option na to stick to tap water and dey use reusable bottles instead of dey waste money for bottled water.
Aunty Megan, one of the researchers, don change her own drinking habit after seeing the results. She gree say we need to dey mindful of mini-plastics wey dey enter our body. If you think say bottled water safe pass tap water, better think again o! Na so life be!
So as this issue dey unfold, make we hold our drinks tight. Whether na bottled or tap, make we dey follow wetin go help our health and environment. Time don reach to dey refill our reusable bottles and talk am say no more to plastic waste!
