Wetin dey happen for Osogbo no be small matter as dem don arraign Imam Abdulgafar Sakariyah and four others over the death of a worshipper, Ahmed Najeem, wey dem talk say mob beat during early morning prayer. Dis kain wahala don bring serious concern about jungle justice for Osun State as everybody dey call for public surveillance cameras to start dey shine light for the area.
Dis sad incident happen on January 30 when worshippers dey gather for the first prayer of the day. As Imam Sakariyah dey preach, na so Najeem just thick head like say him wan turn the place upside down. E grab microphone stand wey dey near the Imam and the wahala start! E wan use am hit Imam but the man dodged like soccer player wey dey avoid tackle.
Witnesses talk say Najeem no just stop there, e dey vex like person wey lose big money, smash him phone for ground before e charge at the Imam. Na so other men wey dey prayer gather carry Najeem go outside, give am serious beating as bouncers for club go do to troublemaker. Before you know, Najeem dey lie down for gutter dey bleed like person wey chop fight.
When police finally come, dem carry Najeem go hospital, but na for there dem confirm say the guy don pass away. According to Ojelabi wey dey handle police matter for Osun, dem no catch any suspect yet but dem dey investigate. E even talk say Najeem no die for inside mosque, but around the mosque perimeter. This one don send heavy shockwave as people begin dey fear for their life in that area.
As news spread, tension no fit calm down again. Najeem family even come storm the mosque, dey threaten to burn the place down during the next Jumat prayer and na so police come whisk Imam Sakariyah and im boys away to avoid gbas gbos.
People wey dey talk for the matter dey shout say all the guys wey beat Najeem suppose face the law. Kazeem, wey be one of the deceased’s relatives, shout say Najeem no dey mad when e dey attack Imam, insist say na just early morning prayers him carry body go do. Dem need justice for Najeem, he no go just die like that!
As dey bring Imam and him gang go court, dem dem dey look sad like say dem don lose big match. Sah! The court don remand dem, make dem chill for Ilesa Correctional Centre until February 24, 2026. Many witnesses talk say, na plenty people dey involve for the beating, and no be all of dem dey face prosecution now. Dis one fit make the real offenders waka pass come out free.
Some people don come out come condemn the mob action as wickedness. Wole Oladapo and Amitolu Shittu wey dey run civil society organizations talk say dis kind jungle justice no fit continue for Osun. Dem dey call for installation of surveillance cameras everywhere to make sure say true justice fit happen. No be only for this matter, even for future wahalas too.
