Senate Don Scatter Electoral Act Wey Civil Society No Gree

Chai! Na serious wah o! Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) don hammer Senate as dem reject key provisions wey go make our electoral system correct.

These CSOs, wey no be small gathering o, include top organizations like Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO), Kukah Centre, and others. Dem make this loud statement for Benin on February 6, 2026, wey plenty people dey talk about.

Dem dey vex say the Senate decision na big setback as e go make everything wey concern electoral integrity dey ground. The areas wey dem touch, eh, na severe ones like blocking electronic transmission of results and tell voters say dem no fit download their missing PVC. Wetin be this? No be democracy be this?

Plus, dem come reduce the time wey political parties suppose use prepare from 180 days to just 90 days. Even INEC sef get small time to publish nominations, from 150 days to 60 days. Na wetin dem dey plan? For electoral manipulation? This one no gree make sense!

The CSOs dey talk say dem dey seriously worry about wetin go happen as Senate don reject 10-year ban for electoral malpractices. Na the same corruption and vote-buying wey don turn Nigerian elections to mere kabukabu.

Abeg, make una shine una eye! Senate decision go make things more difficult and reduce public confidence in waiting we dey call democracy. Dem suppose sabi say transparency and inclusivity na the key to free and fair elections.

While some Senators don open mouth talk say dem go increase fine for PVC offences to ₦5 million, civil society still dey feel say e no enough. Make dem no think say increasing fine go fit cover the wahala wey dey ground.

CSOs call on all citizens and INEC to pressure the Senate make dem go back for re-consideration of these amendments, especially when dem dey go Conference Committee stage. This one no fit happen again!

Dem don even shout say Senators wey disassociate from the main vote, make dem no let partisanship blind dem. Senate suppose think national interest first, na wetin everybody dey call for!

Make we no forget the House of Representatives wey don already gree for real-time electronic transmission of results. Na the same energy we go carry make the Senate see reason to maintain existing timelines for pre-election activities. If dem no cover am, wahala go dey!

Abeg, for this matter, let dem do the right thing. Citizens gatz demand accountable representation from these lawmakers. Na wetin we go campaign for so that election no go be joke!

In summary, e be like say the Senate don dey enter road wey no lead anywhere wey go fit allow democracy shine again. Na all of us gatz join hand as Nigerians, make we pursue for better clarity and electoral integrity.
