Abeg, make we sit down gist serious matter wey dey shake our democracy for Naija. E no be small thing as Nigerian Press Organisation (NPO) don come out to talk say Big Tech companies dey scatter wetin we sabi as journalism.
Last Tuesday, dem gree shout belleful say if we no do something fast, we go lose control of our national gist and wetin dey happen for our country. Na so e be say those global digital giants like Google and Meta, dey run the show now, dey decide wetin we go see and wetin we no go see for our own media space.
If we no look sharp, our social cohesion and democratic principles fit don dey vex, as dem dey take our own story wey we brew, siphon the money outside go carry chop for themselves. Dem no dey give us back any kobo, yet dem dey manage our news like say na dem own am.
The NPO no dey play as dem talk say the serious wahala wey dey happen if we no fit salvage our news industry go serious pass wetin we think. E go cause gidi gidi for our elections, make we dey believe all sort of misinformation wey go dey spread like fire.
Dem don even compare our matter with wetin dey happen for Europe, Australia, and Canada. Those countries don take steps to protect their journalism wetin na their own life blood, but here for Nigeria, we dey still dey slack. Na only when our reporters dey chop belle full, dem go fit tell the truth wey we need to hear.
So, wetin we go do? Simple! We need Federal Government to act sharp-sharp. Make dem empower Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) to help us draft laws wey go protect our local news content.
With the way we fit revive the press, we go fit enjoy quality news again wey no go be like dem fake gist wey dey circulate. We need to take back our narrative before e go fall into the hands of foreign entities wey no care about our people.
Nigeria fit do am, but we all need to rise up, support our local press, and make our voices dey heard. Na wetin go secure our future and make sure say no be only outside news matter we go dey hear again.
