You don see am? E don too rough for our African students wey wan japa go study for obodo oyinbo. Na the dollar wahala dey make am hard for many families wey dey struggle to meet up with those paddy fees wey dey skyrocket like say dem wan carry am go heaven.
Omo, back in 2006, na 120 naira wey one dollar dey exchange. E be like magic, but e dey manageable small. But fast forward to now, see as e don rise reach 1,490 naira, abi sometimes even 1,600 naira! Many students wey gree study hard, dey take many tests and even manage to gree post scholarship wey fit cover 50-60% of tuition, dem don face wall for their dreams.
No be say dem no sabi book, but as money no dey flow like before, na wetin dem go do? E don turn to big wahala because living cost self dey chop dem money like say dem no get sense!
During my time, loans no dey like that for international students. If you no get rich family or American paddy wey fit co-sign, your options go dey slim. Na wetin wey fit don change small be say, new banks don show face wey dey give loan without co-signers. But even this one dey face wahala as many of them don withdraw from regions wey dey suffer currency wahala.
Honestly, it dey pain me. E be like say the brighter future wey we dey dream for global education dey slip from our hands because we no fit dey compete on equal ground. Na now be the real talk — Africa dey face exclusion! And no be by talent, but by the currency we dey use.
Schools dey shout about globalisation and international classrooms, but dem no wan talk about how currency na wetin dey hold some people back. You no fit expect person wey dey earn naira to pay the same fees like person wey dey earn dollars. Na wetin dem go call equality? Abeg, na equity we need, so everybody go fit shine!
Make we face wetin dey happen. If students just dey give up on this dream because na too worry and too much money wey dem never fit gather, wetin go happen to candlestick of ideas wey we dey want bring? No vex o, but the system wey dey favor only some people no dey cool! We gats redesign am for everybody!
Bimpe wey write this matter don face am personally as African student and now she dey push for change because education gots be something we go fit access, not something wey dey left for only the rich side. Na our future dem dey toy with! If na so am be, we dey call on more people — make we come together figure am out because the dollar no go fall anytime soon. E go just dey rise, and if nothing change, we go forever dey lag behind. Na serious matter be this!
