Wetin dey happen for Burkina Faso? UN don yell say government no go fit dey suppress people wey wan express dem mind again. E be like say dem don enter wahala for political matter since military people take over power for 2022.
Dis junta wey dey rule, last week dem come drop bombshell say dem go dissolve all political parties. But UN human rights chief, Volker Turk, no gree make dem do am just like that. E strongly dey suggest say dem need to open space for civil society and humanitarian groups wey dey help people.
Turk yan say, “No be to dey ban parties and dey send people go jail because dem dey talk wetin dey for dem mind.” E don talk say dem need to respect freedom of association and expression as dem don promise to do when dem sign agreement with UN.
Last year, Burkina Faso government shelve the activities of many NGOs and organizations, and dem no only do am like that, na without any proper reason. Some of dem just find excuse say na unauthorized data collection. Dem even come up with one new law wey dey restrict freedom of association, and dey sabi say e dey limit how civil society fit work for country.
Even though dem don release some people wey dem arrest before, UN still dey hear stories of enforced disappearances and arbitrary arrests. Na journalists and leaders of political parties dey suffer am well well.
Turk don talk say make dis government act fast to correct all dis issues. E say dem need to remove di restrictive laws wey dey hold dem back and allow humanitarian aid reach di people wey need am. He dey urge dem to free anybody wey dem don keep without proper reason gangan.
For any serious violation of human rights, wetin we suppose see na accountability. Di people wey dey suffer deserve better, and e be like say di Burkinabe government don promise to do beta work na way wey go give dem light for di future.
