Na wah oh! We no go believe wetin happen for Mgbowo community for Enugu State as farmers don gather shout, dey protest the invasion wey land grabbers bring come their ancestral farmlands. Dem talk say dem destroy crops wey worth plenty millions of naira. E no easy at all!
These farmers wey dey hussle for Ugwunzu Ezioha axis no just dey vex for the land grabbers alone, but dem dey accuse local government officials say dem dey part of this wahala. Na serious matter wey fit scatter people livelihood, naim dem gather everywhere carry placards dey shout say ‘government no fit take community land give person without our consent’.
The invasion wey happen for December 10, 2025, no be small. Three big bulldozers come dey clear land like say na dem own am. Dem no even gree make the farmers harvest their crops wey don mature, but just flatten everything like say na play! As one protest leader talk, ‘This no be development, na economic warfare!’ Make we ask: Wetin happen to rule of law for this matter?
The Mgbowo Stakeholders Forum don come out talk say wetin dey happen no be small matter. Dem talk say ‘this na serious assault on our way of life, and e dey show say brute force don take over for rural Enugu State’. E be like say them no even give notice or consult with community leaders before this ‘bulldozer invasion’. Dem say farmers don cry, no be for compensation o, but just for chance to harvest wetin dem don toil for.
Even the traditional ruler of Ekpulato Mgbowo Community, Igwe Greg Ikwuagwu Ituma, don confirm say nobody inform am about any government allocation for that land. Wetin we dey see here na complete disrespect to tradition. If na Igbo land, to sideline traditional ruler na wahala wey go come on top. Who give this order for this invasion sabi wetin e dey do?
The community come dey side-eye the Awgu Local Government Chairman, Uchenna Okolo, say e no do anything when dem inform am about the situation. Dem say he just dey rely on unverified claim wey Kingsley Okeke, the head of the invading group, talk about some 99-year lease from Federal Government. Wetin be the proof sef? Dem no show document, and yet, dem dey chop land like say e be groundnut. E no go better for all these people wey dey allow this kind thing happen.
The police sef no dey come to help matter at all! When victims try to file complaint, DPO no gree give dem chance. E sure say if people no fit access law, dem go soon take law into their own hands. This na recipe for chaos, and nobody go like am like that.
Mgbowo people don send SOS to the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, urge am make e intervene before matter go bad. Dem no wan wait for protests or wahala before dem act. This patience wey dem dey show fit end one day, and when e end, e no go be sweet.
Now, the community dey call for immediate suspension of all activities for that land wey dey cause wahala, a thorough investigation into wetin local officials and police don do, plus full compensation for all the farmers wey suffer loss. Make we hope say government go take action before e too late!
