Di tenant, Mr. Anozie Tochukwu, wey dey stay for No. 7 Chief Chike Street, Mgbuoba, come begin tell us how di matter take happen. According to am, he don dey pay rent since January 2024, but di landlord no gree make am stay as e plan to renovate di house. Na so dem come clash!
Di tonu come start when di landlord give am notice say make he move out before January 2026, but Tochukwu beg am make he fit stay little longer as e don pay for new place. E ask for 14 days grace, but Mr. Frimpong no wan hear word, na im carry hammer come remove di roof.
“My wife call me for morning sha, say di landlord don remove di roof,” Tochukwu talk. “Rain start to fall soon after, and all my properties dey expose. My children dey there too; wetin I go do? I don lose about 25 million Naira worth of things—TV, freezer, my certificates, everything!”
Na die di police come step in; dem arrest Mr. Frimpong on February 3, 2026, after dem report di matter. Di police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirm di arrest, say di matter dey under investigation. “E don enter our custody. We go see wetin go happen after investigation,” she talk.
One lawyer wey dey with di Human Rights Organization, Raymond Okocha, come call di landlord action ‘grave injustice’. E dey vex say di man no follow di proper way to evict person. Na so self-help no dey gree for di law.
Okocha don call make dem give Tochukwu justice, say na wetin happen to am fit happen to anybody. “If we no take action now, where our rights go dey? We go fight for di law to take its full course,” na wetin di lawyer talk.
This matter show us say some landlords dey take law for their hand without thinking am well. Na who go protect di common man if dis kind thing dey happen?
