For one meeting wey happen for Ikeja, dem Attorney-General of Lagos, Lawal Pedro (SAN) yarn say, ‘We need to cooperate for this justice matter as e don plenty.’ He talk am well as he emphasize say, Lagos be the most populous state for Naija, and with all the wahala wey dey here – urbanization, migration, inequality, e just dey pile up for our justice system.
Pedro gree say na only strong laws no go cover am; na professional capacity and partnerships too dey important for everything. Na why dem dey push plenty reforms like law-making and how to support victims. E don make dem work with agencies wey dey handle all these cases, from domestic violence to human trafficking.
As for Canada–Nigeria Justice Cooperation Project, e be like say na big chance to learn from each other. Pedro explain say Canada sabi rights-based justice wella, and Lagos get experience for how to manage busy urban area well. E say international cooperation go work when everybody get mutual respect and dey aim for better result.
Ms Genevieve Westrope, wey be Co-Director for the Canada-Nigeria Justice Cooperation Project, talk say Canada dey come to Naija to bring technical assistance wey dem don request from Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to tackle ethnic violence and child protection issues.
She talk say dem don see plenty areas wey both countries fit collaborate well. As dem follow up their Lagos visit, she describe the city as one wey sabi how to join hand for institutional coordination. She also express how dem dey interested to learn how Lagos system dey work to copy any good thing.
Also, Hameed Oyenuga, wey be Solicitor-General for the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, don even sign say dis kind international cooperation go help dem reflect and improve on their work. He dey carry the mandate to cover all legal service, criminal prosecution, and even to draft new policies.
Oyenuga talk say he sure say dis meeting go build strong foundation for Lagos and Canada to work together for long, as dey dey aim to protect vulnerable people and push for justice reforms wey go last.
