Last week Monday, dem release public advisory wey carry mouth no be small. Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Bolaji Robert, na him sign am. E talk say e don notice say some people dey waka up and down with chieftaincy titles wey dem just adopt by demself, no government approval anywhere!
Dem make am clear say these titles no get recognition for Lagos, and e dey cause tension and confusion everywhere. The government dey sound like fighter wey dey prepare for war; dis whole wahala don reach alarming level! If dem no handle am quick-quick, na crisis go follow on top.
As Lagos na big city wey different ethnic groups dey, dem talk say people fit appoint leaders for their community but make dem no dey call demself ‘Oba’ or use royal names like ‘His Royal Majesty’. Na wetin dem law talk, and e dey illegal like adding sugar to your garri!
Na only the Governor fit approve choosy titles for Lagos, and dis law get strict procedures wey dey follow. The government don even drop shades for people wey dey use royal insignia wey no get approval. If person de carry crown, wey no follow law, na wahala dey come!
Dem even mention section and paragraph number like dem dey do for classroom! For those wey don receive any chieftaincy title without the Governor’s blessing, na dem be the real ‘King of Nowhere’. Any title wey no approved be like empty promise, and dem talk say punishments dey wey fit reach two years imprisonment – no be play!
The state dey urge gbogbo eniyan to follow this law and waka dey enjoy life. If you don’t get your title right, e fit lead to serious gbege like court wahala. Those wey don already use the title, dem dey waka on thin ice. If you no dey careful, dem go come after you!
