My people, make we yarn wetin dey happen for sports side. The minister for sport for South Africa, Gayton McKenzie, don clear the air say dem no don confirm say dem go host the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
As e be, McKenzie talk say no formal decision don come out to replace Morocco wey dey hold the hosting rights. E b like say some people don dey talk say Morocco don waka, but the minister talk say na lie. Morocco still dey hold ground well well for the tournament wey go start on March 17.
Na the deputy minister of sport, Peace Mabel, na im first talk say Morocco don pull out from hosting the tournament, and South Africa dey ready to fit take over. But McKenzie come re-sharpen the gist, come yan say South Africa dey ready to help CAF if dem need dem, but no be say dem don take charge yet.
McKenzie explain say dem just dey do their own small planning in case Morocco really waka. E talk say na part of wetin CAF dey do for big competitions. E say at this moment, Morocco still be the official host, and no alternative plan don show face yet. E also talk say if South Africa wan host am, dem get some koko wey dey important to fulfill first – like CAF approval, clearance from government, and all the necessary venues must dey ready.
According to PUNCH Online, Morocco dey set to host WAFCON for the third time in a row, and the tournament go run from March 17 to April 3. Dem don try for the last two editions, as dem finish as runner-up – first lose to South Africa for 2022 final, then dem still carry the wahala come match Super Falcons from Naija for 2024 final too.
Na so e be for now, my pipo. Make we dey watch as the story dey unfold. No forget say na sport we dey yan about. Wef, any update go reach una as the matter dey hot for corner.
