Nah wah for Lagos matter! Dem don call community leaders wey dey suffer from the demolition wey happen for Makoko and surrounding areas make dem come meet dem for Assembly. Dem letter wey reach PUNCH Metro don show say dem go hold this important gathering on top Tuesday.
This meeting wey go happen for 10:00 a.m. for February 3, na because of the wahala wey dem residents don raise over how dem evict people from their homes without proper notice or compensation. Dem dey live like fish inside water now! People dey manage to sleep for boats and some don actually relocate. Wetin be dis na? Dem no go sabi wetin to do again?
Community leaders wey talk to our correspondent say the government don dey chop dem life small by small, as dem spoil houses, schools, and clinics. One chief wey dey involved, Francis Samson, don tell us say dem gree meet with government people before dem start demolition, but dem no keep to agreement. Na wah!
Samson talk say dem promise dem say na only 30 metres from the high-tension wire dem go clear, but e turn say dem go clear far pass that one reach 520 metres. Wetin dat one mean now? People wey dey fish for that area don lose their daily bread, and some dey sleep under the sky. Na so dem life remain empty, just like Lagos traffic on a Monday morning!
Another community leader, Oluwo Felix Fasinu, join body talk say wetin dem need na proper boundary wey no go make dem displace people finish. Dem no want “slum” life anymore but decent places to live. People don dey vex as reports of deaths dey come from all over during dem demolition matter too. One woman carry pikin jump inside lagoon as police dey fire tear gas. About three children and two adults no survive that day!
When police officers wey dey deny say dem fire live bullets come waka pass, dem talk say na just tear gas dem use. But people wey dey protest, dem no gree hear word and tension dey high. People carry placard dey shout for justice say no mega city fit prosper without dem poor. Abeg, wey dem human rights too?
Makoko community dey suffer! Dem dey go the streets, dey protest, but dem government no dey listen to wetin dem dey talk. The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Stephen Ogundipe, no even reply when we try reach am. Na so dem things dey go for Naija, my people!
