My people, you no go believe wetin dey happen for Nigeria this 2026! Federal Government don budget N420.97m for NigComSat-2 Project. Na small change, but e mean say dem still dey try push our satellite communication matter.
As e be now, last year na N601.39m dem budget give the same project, so this year we don see drop of about N180.42m – na almost 30%! Chai! Agbero no go gree, but no wahala, dem say the project still dey ongoing!
The NigComSat-2 Project na part of Nigeria plan to replace our old NigComSat-1R wey don dey age like my grandmother. This new satellite go help connect people for broadband, broadcasting and even rural areas. Imagine how e go help for tele-education and telemedicine – e go turn our country to tech paradise!
Bros, the breakdown of the budget show say Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited go collect total of N9.9bn this year. Dem go use the money to cover personnel and capital expenditure. But dem don allocate bulk of the money, like N7.02bn, for capital work dem, because satellite and ground systems no be small work!
But my guy, no be only NigComSat-2 dey waka! Plenty other projects dey mix and match, like ground station upgrades and any other connectivity for rural areas. Why government dey cut budget? E fit be say dem dey fear fiscal pressure or dem just wan manage our existing satellite wey dey survive on life support!
Last year, dem use N601.39m to plan wetin dem dey call preparatory and technical work. Abeg, we no fit dey expect full-blown satellite construction anytime soon unless dem go gather their money. This one fit involve public-private partnerships or other external funding sha.
And to sabi say, na serious matter dem dey plan for satellite infrastructure to fit help everybody. Under Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited budget, dem dey plan satellite broadband, rural connectivity, even innovation digital hubs all over the country! E fit be say tomorrow, all of us go dey tech-savvy!
But, make I no forget tell you, Government don approve purchase for two new communication satellites to boost our digital infrastructure. This one na move wey President Bola Tinubu don approve; him dey try grow our economy reach $1tn! Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijani, talk am clear say this satellite go help connect every corner wey people dey.
Omo, as e be now, Nigeria na the only country for West Africa wey fit boast of communication satellites! E be like say na serious matter wey dem dey plan for our digital future. Abeg, say a prayer for our NigComSat-2 Project o! Make dem carry am go far!
