The sector dey move like say na electric bike wey gain speed. Naija no dey joke when e come to logistics, as everybody dey hustle for their business. But no be all smooth sailing o. Wetin remain constant be the wahala wey dey follow everywhere, especially during rainy season wey traffic dey jam everywhere.
One guy wey drive for Transport Company of Anambra State, Mr. Stephen, talk say as di rain dey fall, na then dem go see road matter. “E no easy for June and July,” he yan. Everybody dey stay house, no goods, no movement. E no just dey happen for Anambra, na everywhere dem dey experience di same wahala.”
The reports show say as e be, Q1 wey dey January to March, na him be di strong period for the sector. E dey hot during dry season. But wetin happen next? Q2 and Q3 muscles dey drop due to rain. Transport specialist, Marcel Mba, come yan say, “When rainy season start, movement dey slow.” Na true talk, my people! Everybody dey hide under umbrella, and no one wan carry goods unless na serious matter.
But e no stop there. E-commerce don come wey dey change game, as we get faster delivery for first-class items. Dr. Muda Yusuf wey be Director for Centre for Promotion of Private Enterprise talk say people dey prefer to order from house instead of waka come market. “Motorcycle delivery dey everywhere for urban areas,” he talk.
Small small exports dey rise too! Naija pipo dey send goods abroad for small quantities, hoping say exchange rate go favour dem. But no be every courier they operate under formal registration. Dem dey carry goods through park vehicles, as dem no fit use formal services for dem business. E get some people wey just dey do any how without following rules, wey dey affect real courier companies.
President of Nigeria Courier Operators, Okey Uba, come join for di matter, say market suffer because of high fuel price wey dey make delivery costs chop money. He say, “Na high logistics cost don make people rely on delivery services more.” If you fit stay house and get wetin you want, who go like stress?
But no be only good news dey everywhere o. Infrastructure na big wahala wey dey hold this sector back. Poor roads and heavy traffic dey cause delay for many operators wey dey try run their business. Uba complain, say some drivers dey spend days for road when delivery go take 30 minutes normally. This level no go fit continue like this.
E get better hopes, sha! The growth of partnership among courier operators dey rise. Instead of opening branches everywhere, dem dey work together. “No one dey run own branch for Abuja again,” na wetin Uba talk. But dem still dey face challenges like interest rates wey dey high—30% wey dem dey talk about, na serious wahala for business o!
