Watin dey happen for Lagos? E be like say wahala don show as residents from places like Makoko, Oworonshoki, Owode-Onirin and Oko Baba don gather, dey protest recent demolition wey dash people house dem. Dem dey waka go Lagos State House of Assembly, calling for better relocation plans and compensation, as some people don lose their lives for past demolitions.
As dem dey wave their placards with serious messages like “A megacity no fit build on di bones and blood of di poor” and “Justice for Owode-Onirin traders,” police no gree make dem enter House of Assembly. Dem don use tear gas to scatter the crowd because dey no wan make dem dey cause wahala for there.
Report wey come from PUNCH Online talk say even journalists and nursing mothers wey dey there no fit escape as dem fire tear gas. One protester even collect leg injury, and the photo don waka far on social media, people dey yan say e don get gunshot. But Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Olohundare, don clear am say no gunshot happen.
Olohundare talk say, “I dey there. I dey beg dem make dem remain peaceful, but dem dey throw insult at me. I no go react as police man, no be my style.” He explain say dem try talk to di House of Assembly leaders, but dem no gree listen. Dem say di protesters just wan create mayhem, and police no go allow that nonsense.
He still dey deny report say protesters get bullet wounds. For him mouth, e talk say di injury wey one protester carry no be bullet injury, but wetin happen as people dey run from di tear gas. He explain say when tear gas land, people dey rush to escape, and na for that scramble some people fit collect injury. E still add say nobody don report gunshot injury to dem that day.
As di gisting dey hot, e clear say di police no dey play with matter wey fit turn violent. Di protest don show say di matter wey dey happen for Lagos dey serious. Dem dey demand wetin belong to dem, and if government no gree listen, e fit lead to more wahala for ground. Na so e be, my people. Make we dey keep eyes on top di matter.
