UN Don Call For $1.4 Billion Wey DRC Need

Wetin dey happen for Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) no be small mata! As we dey talk, UN don launch di 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan wey require $1.4 billion to help dem people wey dey suffer.

Dem UN spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, yan am for news conference wey happen for New York. E talk say last year, dem no fit gather up to quarter of di $2.5 billion wey dem need, and na so plenty people dey waka around dey find help.

Out of 113 million people wey dey live for DRC, about 15 million of dem dey need humanitarian support. But because money no dey, dem go try reach only 7.3 million dis year. Dujarric talk say di money wey dem get for 2025 no enough, e even cause many nutrition centers to close down, wey make over 400,000 pikin wey dey suffer malnutrition no fit get help.

Meanwhile, 1.5 million people don lose access to primary healthcare because health facilities don close down and medicine don dey shortage. Na wah! Di situation don even affect food assistance, as dem dey cut monthly rations by 70% for di eastern provinces. Things dey scatter well-well!

Fighting for di northeast dey make matter worse because e dey disrupt humanitarian operations wey suppose help dem people. Dujarric talk say if funding no fit come, di response no go fit meet up with di scale of di needs. E no sweet at all!

On top peacekeeping mata, UN peacekeepers don help 34 Rwandan people wey dey Goma to go back to Rwanda. Dis one na request wey Congolese authorities don make, and di group include 15 former combatants from FDLR armed group plus family members. Dem don hand dem over for follow-up support.

Dujarric talk say since January, 60 people don dey repatriated, wey include 33 former combatants and 27 family members. Di peacekeeping mission dey work with Congolese authorities to help disarm, resettle, and repatriate FDLR combatants, as e dey part of wetin dem suppose do.

As we dey see am, di humanitarian crisis for DRC na serious wahala, and if no better plan fit land, e go dey hard for dem people wey dey suffer bad. E be like say dem need all di obi now pass wetin dem fit beg for!
