My people, wetin be dis? Na serious matter wey dey ground for Naija, as femicide don turn to big wahala. Between January and December 2025, 197 Nigerian women, including our teenage girls, waka go meet their maker through gender-related violence, according to DOHS Cares Foundation’s report. E no funny at all!

Dis number wey dem total, e don show say the matter don worsen pass 2024 wey only 133 women and girls lose their lives. Na for this same period wey dem gather the shocking figures, dem document 172 suspected femicide cases for the whole country. Na wetin dem call pandemic for sure!

DOHS Cares Foundation wey dey fight gender-based violence, dem explain say the way dem count the deaths no be one woman, one case. Sometimes, dem go find plenty bodies for one corner, dey report am like one case, but na wahala wey carry pipo go the end of life. Just like wetin happen for the sad case of Loveth Uloma, wey 19 years old, wey her own uncle carry mat for Enugu State. Chai, no woman deserve dis kind treatment!

For Borno State, case of Rifkatu Yohanna no fit make anybody happy as she find herself dead with severe cuts for neck and body, thanks to her 17-year-old neighbor who just wan steal phone and power bank. This kin violence wey women dey face dey show how men wey suppose protect dem don turn to dem enemy. How far?

Plus, in Kwara State, one girl wey be receptionist also face am bad as she dey strangle for her workplace. The suspect wey be ex-staff, Yusuf Ibrahim, even dey waka carry ladder come jump like say e dey run Olympic. Wetin be all dis?

Sad story no end for Delta State where Edwolo dey find her end for hotel room wey supposed be safe. The hotel owner wan explain but e carry wahala instead. Lagos State no dey left behind too, as Temitope Odu face her husband, Christopher Odu, wey just dey beat am for over 20 years, until e take her life. Wetin be our society turning into?

Ololade Ajayi, the founder of DOHS Cares, don talk say dis femicide matter no be small wahala, e be national emergency. The statistics no go lie; women dey slaughter like meat every 49 hours. E no suppose be like dis! Our leaders need to buckle up, no more wahala; we need laws wey go protect our women!

Data from United Women also dey show say na the worst kind violence against women and girls, and we need to take action before it too late. Wetin we go do to tackle dis one? Make we join hand together to stop dis killing spree and bring justice to our dear sisters. Na wah!
