Na here e dey hot, my people! Dangote Petroleum Refinery don yarn about their new strategy wey dem dey use to dodge wahala wey come from the Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracker (RFCC) dey waka well well like ghost.
According to wetin Kpler report talk, since last 2025 wey don pass us, dem don dey process lighter crude oil. Dis new strategy na because dem wan minimize the wahala wey dey cause disruptions for their production. Chai! Na so e be for refinery life.
Dis lighter crude wey dem dey use dey get API gravity wey go from 37 to 39, abi una sabi wetin that one mean? E go help dem keep their major secondary units (like Continuous Catalytic Reformer, isomerisation and hydrocracking) dey waka without gbagam!
As we sabi say, the RFCC na 200,000-barrel-per-day machine wey don dey offline since April 2025, so na wetin make dem ginger dis lighter crude na im fit help maintain supply blend wey fit take care of gasoline and middle distillates.
The report still comot say, ‘No be small matter! Even with all dis wahala, we dey expect refinery runs go dey between 300-320 thousand barrels per day into February. Make we just dey cross our fingers.’ You fit hear am!
Although Dangote don dey face gingers too with the RFCC wahala, dem don still dey produce gasoline through alternative means. E be like say dem don even increase imports of gasoline blend, as January imports don rise to about 45,000 barrels per day, wey fit help sustain supply level.
But, no be everything sweet o! January crude runs na between 280,000 and 300,000 barrels per day, and dem dey expect am to stay like dat as RFCC dey still be the major bottleneck. Wetin you think say go happen if dem no fix am sharp sharp?
Market people don also dey talk say, RFCC restart wey suppose happen 10th of February fit still get delays based on the issues wey still dey happen inside the unit. Broooo, the whole thing dey like movie wey no get end. Talk about suspense!
Dem don dey expect refinery runs to go up to about 350,000 barrels per day by first quarter of 2026 and even hit 400,000 barrels a day before the first half of the year finish. But all dis na if dem fit carry RFCC enter proper gear.
Dis wahala wey dey happen no be for small pikin, as refinery stability dey take time. According to wetin dem talk, stabilisation fit take between 24 to 36 months. So, we gree say na wetin big refineries dey experience globally, so na patience we go need for this one.
The Dangote Refinery dey try make Nigeria dey produce refined products wey no go make us dey depend too much on foreign products, so we dey hope say all dis wahala go soon end. Na so di koko be!
