As dem gather plenty people for there, including road safety officials wey no fit hide their smiles, dem present ol’ Olalekan with brand new Sienna car. E come be like movie as the crowd dey shout in excitement.
According to Mrs. Omodunni Ogukwa, wey be the Managing Director of Cross Country, this reward no be only about the car. Dem don create how dem dey call ‘drive-to-own’ initiative wey go help their drivers fit own vehicles after dem show dedication and proper maintenance. Na smart decision wey dey encourage drivers to work hard because if you perform well, dem go transfer ownership of the car to you!
As Olalekan take receive the car key, e talk say e no expect all this shake because him dey focus on how to earn better living. “I no take am serious when dem first talk say if I meet the benchmark, I go collect the car. Na purely hard work for my mind,” e yarn, still in shock.
People dey wonder how e take get this opportunity wey dey key for him life. Olalekan talk say him don dey drive since 1999, self-trained as mechanic even before he enter this Cross Country family around 2023. From motor boy wey dey work under another transporter, him turn driver wey fit manage the vehicle well to secure this make-over.
Aside Olalekan, four other drivers also collect gifts as recognition for their long service. One of dem, Abdelkarim, don serve for 15 years and e dey jump for joy as dem recognize him contributions.
This kind event dey boost morale for the industry, as e dey encourage others wey dey ply this driving trade to work harder. As Mrs. Ogukwa talk, “Hard work and honesty pay!” Na true talk be that o!
