You no go believe am, but na wetin dey happen for Kano as electricity workers don lock down everywhere. Na serious matter be this, and e dey affect pipo wey rely on light for dem day-to-day matter. The Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) and National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) don come together join hand for this strike. Dem dey vex say management no dey treat dem well, and since dem no wan hear word, dem just decide say na strike dem go use to make dem understand.
Dis strike no be small wahala o! E start after dem give KEDCO management deadline wey don pass for dem to settle una matter. As the matter be now, deputy president general of SSAEAC, Rilwan Shehu, don come come outside yarn say dis gbege don dey happen since 2014, and e be like say nothing don change. Dem dey complain say management no dey pay pension, dem no dey gree settle death benefits, plus say the working environment no just dey okay at all.
As if that one no finish, vice president of NUEE, Ado Gaya still dey burst dem head talking about how dem dey promote people for staff. Him talk say some people don dey work for ten years without promotion while dem go do selective promotion for some people wey dey close to the top. Na wah! No be small matter!
But as usual, KEDCO management no keep quiet. Dem come out come deny everything wey the workers talk. According to dem, since the new management land for seven months ago, dem don dey prioritize workers welfare. E be like say dem don pay 80 percent of the pension wey dem agree for 2025. KEDCO Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, come talk say dem don run update for promotion, and 1,500 staff don upgrade their status. He still dey assure everybody say dem go fix everything wey don dey cause this wahala.
Na so dem dey try settle matter as wey dem dey engage stakeholders to find solution. But for now, people wey dey Kano go dey manage without light, and e no good at all o! Gist wey don dey break like this dey show say workers and management need to sit down talk well make everybody fit enjoy wetin dem suppose enjoy.
