My people, listen well! Na big news wey don drop from NAFDAC this week. Dem don finally put foot down, say no more alcohol for sachets and small bottles below 200ml. Na Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, di Director-General of NAFDAC, wey talk am for one media briefing wey happen for Lagos.
Dis matter no be today talk, e don dey brew since November 2025 when di Senate don give directive. Dem say dem go enforce di ban wey start from January 1, 2026. But wetin happen? Federal Government don hold dem back for some time, but now e don clear, dem don green light enforcement.
As e be, di ban no be just for gist or show. Na to protect our children and young people from di harmful effects of alcohol. Adeyeye yarn say di way people dey sell high-alcohol-content drinks in sachets don turn plenty people to addicted customers. Dem dey use am cover am for corner like say na water, and una sabi wetin fit happen when pikin dem get easy access to all dis kinda drink.
“No be say we dey against alcohol, but di way e dey dey packaged we no go allow am,” she talk. According to am, some of di drinks dey contain between 50 to 90 percent alcohol, wey no fit happen! Small pikin fit drink am finish, dey waka upandan without anybody knowing. Dis na serious matter for public health.”
NAFDAC dey try to ensure di health of our pikin dey intact, no more that kind small sachet alcohol wey dey scatter everywhere for market. E go cause danger for road safety, plus domestic violence join. Di agency don talk say dem go reinforce di law and anybody wey no comply go dey face wahala.
Prof. Adeyeye also talk say, dem dey plan to recruit extra 1,000 staff to help dem carry out di enforcement. Omo, dis one na serious step towards fixing di wahala wey dey on ground. Dem don also plan sensitization campaigns so people go sabi di dangers wey dey with alcohol misuse. Dis na for di laymen wey dey hustle for street.
For one side, na true say some people dey fear say di ban go mean loss of job. But Adeyeye clear am say, dem no wan put anybody for unemployment. Na to protect our youth and future wey dey involve. Dis law go help reduce di public health menace wey dey rise.
So, make we dey look how dis one go play out for ground. We go dey give update as di enforcement dey happen. For now, make we put our hand together for maximum compliance. E no go easy, but e go better for all of us if we fit help our children stay safe.
