Na wah o! Naira don dey suffer again as e dey face serious pressure from Dollar. For black market, as we talk, Dollar don reach ₦1,480 for buy and ₦1,490 for sell. This one happen on top demand wey don rise for foreign currency everywhere, especially Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

As January dey push forward, naija people dey rush come market to restock their goods, schools don reopen, and companies dey try pay their bills abroad. Last year December, remittance wey dey flow from abroad don dey dry up small, and na because of that, people dey feel this wahala wella!

From the figures wey Bureau De Change (BDC) operators drop, na for Thursday, January 15th, 2026, the trade no dey sweet at all. E mean say the black market rate dey close to the selling rate as people dey rush madly to secure Dollar. As importers dey hustle, the market don dey hot, and we dey see increase for buyers. All these things dey lead to wetin we dey call serious mismatch for demand and supply.

But wetin dey cause this wahala? Many things dey happen! Business wey don come back full force dey order goods wey need Dollar. Families dey look for how to pay tuition and other expenses for their pikin wey dey study abroad. The small remittance wey dey come don dey fade, and some traders dey hold Dollar as dem dey expect price go increase more. E no too good at all!

This new wahala for Dollar to Naira exchange rate fit cause bigger problem if we no do something quick. Economists don dey talk say the way e dey go fit cause inflation, make people no fit buy wetin dem suppose buy again. Analysts don dey say, make we ready for more wahala in short term as market dey volatile anyhow.

Make we dey watch the short-term trading range wey people dey expect to be ₦1,470 to ₦1,505 for Dollar. Wetin we go look out for? Na how this black market exchange rate go dey move, especially today Thursday, January 15th.

The naira don show some small strength against Dollar at the official market too as e close strong for ₦1,417.94 on Friday from ₦1,419.28. Na CBN don help we stabilize small because na for dem we dey trust for accurate exchange rates. This week, e don get some small gain, but we no fit rest! Naira still dey face amssin from Dollar pressure, so we gatz keep our eyes sharp.
