Wetin dey happen, my people? Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu don come gree say dem demolition wey dem dey do for Makoko na for safety matter. Na since December 2025, dem don dey pull down structures around that area, wey dey near power-line. As e be, dem suppose clear areas wey fit cause wahala if anything bad happen.
Sanwo-Olu no wan make people yan say Nigeria dey neglect life matter. For him statement on Monday after e sign N4.4tn 2026 budget into law, him tok say, “Safety of lives and property na top priority. Wetin go fit happen if one tank wey carry 33,000 litres of fuel fall for bridge? People dey scoop fuel like say na free drink. Wetin if fire catch dem?”
He no just dey talk anyhow. E use dat tanker wahala to stack make people sabi why dem dey demolish for Makoko. A lot of people don build shanties under high-tension wires, and we sabi say no be everybody fit go online to find solution. Wetin go happen if dem allow people stay there and something terrible happen?
Sanwo-Olu even add say, “No be say dem wan demolish whole Makoko. Na only some places dem dey clear so that people no go dey near Third Mainland Bridge and high-tension wires. Some people for NGO side dey shout loud, but wetin dem don do? Na money dem wan chop from international donors, we go check am.”
The governor no let matter rest there. E con talk say dem don dey plan palliative measures to help the people wey go suffer from dis demolition. “I don tell local government and relevant ministries to help give some support, grants and relocation options for those affected. Compassion dey important,” he add.
Pipo don dey react to di demolition matter for social media. Some dey support di move, while others dey vex as dem dey fear wetin go happen to people wey dey live for Makoko. Di whole thing dey boil like pepper soup wey no get enough salt. How e go end for di community we go see.
At the end of the day, na wetin we sabi say safety matter dey important pass everything. But wetin go happen to those wey go lose dem house? E go dey interesting to see how di government go handle di matter go forward and wetin dem go provide as support for di people wey dey affected.
