Hello, my people! You don hear wetin dey happen for Africa? E be like say we don finally ginger ourself to enter digital economy big time! Dem dey talk say by 2030, our digital market go reach $1.5 trillion. But hold up, make we no carry our body jump for back, because we still get plenty wahala wey dey limit our progress.
One man wey dey front this gist na Dr. Krishnan Ranganath, wey be the Regional Executive for West Africa at Africa Data Centres. E talk say power and internet transmission be the major problem wey dey delay our progress, as dem no dey flow as e suppose dey. Na only power generation we get plenty for Africa, but na to carry am reach wey we go use am na im dey choke us. Abeg, if connection no dey good, all the data centres wey we build go just dey stand like concrete blocks, no go fit help anybody.
With data centres, we fit support cloud services, fintech platforms, and even artificial intelligence wey dey trend now. Dem say the data centre market for Africa fit grow from $3.49 billion for 2024 to $6.81 billion by 2030. No be small growth o! But how we go fit achieve this one when our transmission infrastructure dey hold us back? If we no fit carry data from one place to another, how AI go fit operate wey e need all those data so tey we fit compete with di world?
But e no be only slow transmission we dey face o! Different laws for different countries dey make am hard for obodo Afrika to unite for grow. Some countries dey insist say data wey dem gather must stay for their land. This one fit protect their interest, but e dey also slow down how we dey integrate as one big digital market.
Dr. Ranganath you sabi e don clear say we no fit rely on just data centres alone to build our digital future. We need to look at the whole ecosystem wey include power, network, human capacity, and our consumers. All these things dey work together to shape our bigger digital economy.
Some countries like Morocco, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa don dey move to get their digital infrastructure on point. As they dey push for better connection, the demand for AI and fintech dey rise up like phoenix. Estimates say our cloud market fit reach $45 billion by 2031, while fintech fit even hit $65 billion by 2030! Na big money be that, my people!
But if we dey follow individual country path, we go just dey create pockets of growth like say we dey play hide and seek. Ranganath talk am clearly, say we need better collaboration among all African nations to form one united front. We need our leaders to gather round table, set guidelines, and ensure say we all dey move as one.
My people, if we no fit work together, progress go remain for dreamland. Make all the African leaders open their eye and see the bigger picture, because together, we fit turn Africa to digital powerhouse wey fit compete for global stage. Na wetin we want, abi? Make we keep our fingers crossed and dey hope say better days dey come!
