Why Armed Forces Remembrance Day fit be public holiday?

Omo, make we yarn about this Armed Forces Remembrance Day wey dey come up for January 15 every year. Na day wey we dey take salute our military men and women wey don lay down their lives for the country. E no easy at all, my people. Dem dey face plenty wahala, from insurgents to bandits, all for our own peace and protection.

But let’s face am, this day just dey look like ordinary day for many people wey no dey inside military life. Dem go just wake up, do small national anthem, wear their best clothes, and go live their life like say na just another public holiday. Wetin we no go talk!

Dis na why I dey yarn say we need to declare this Armed Forces Remembrance Day as a full-blown public holiday. If we fit make am national holiday, e go help people understand wetin our soldiers dey go through, and how dem dey sacrifice everything just to keep our country safe. Na so e be, when we dey reason am, e ng go fit foster unity for this time wey insecurity dey make plenty people dey side-eye each other.

Imagine say we dey celebrate am as a public holiday, e go give civilians and military chance to connect better. Dem go see say military no be just force, but people wey dey face obodo label for our collective safety. Naija no go dey alone anymore. If dem fit dey celebrated like di US and UK wey get their own Veterans Day and Remembrance Sunday, wetin stop us?

Plus, this no go only raise awareness for the sacrifices our military personnel dey make, but e go also shine light on di families wey dey suffer after the death of their loved ones. We go fit make am a day to honour them, the wives wey dey wait for their husbands wey go come back, and the children wey just want their papa or mama back whole.

As e dey hot now, we get public outcry for justice and welfare for our veterans wey go come after they don serve their time. How many of dem dey find work after dem don hang their boots? Dem deserve better recognition, and this holiday fit bring that awareness wey we dey crave.

Sabi as e be, I no wan make we just dey discuss for social media or WhatsApp alone. Make una carry the gist go everywhere: schools, churches, family gatherings. Allow people to know say na our responsibility as Naija citizens to show love to our armed forces.

So, as dem dey plan for di January 15, make we no forget say we fit change this day from ordinary remembrance to national celebration. Let’s call on government make dem declare this day as public holiday make our military heroes and path makers enjoy di respect and honour wey dem dey due.

With dis, we fit build connection and camaraderie wey too dey vital for our country. Together, with one voice, we fit shout louder! Naija, show your soldiers some love!
