Naija Gist: Marwan Barghouti Wey Fit Change Peace Matter

My people, today we go dey talk about Marwan Barghouti, na im be one important player for the whole Israeli-Palestinian wahala. This guy no be small fish o, since 2002, he don dey jolly for Israeli prison, dey serve five life sentences plus 40 years. Wetin he do? Them say he masterminded some serious killings, but him dey deny am tight.

But abeg, no be just that story we go hear today. The koko be say as the wahala dey plenty, people don begin dey shout ‘Free Marwan!’ even artists and former world leaders don join the movement, wan make sure say this guy get free pass to lead his people again.

The irony wey dey for this matter be say na this same man, wey some right-wing Israelis dey see as threat, na him people dey first nominate as their leader. Like seriously, how e go be say the man wey dem wan keep quiet fit actually be the key to peace? Na serious matter o!

We fit talk say Marwan no be like Hamas; him get different views, and na im make people dey believe say if he fit talk directly with the Israeli leaders, something better fit happen. E don get people wey don talk say him na the most qualified candidate to lead the Palestinians, because e don spend years for Israeli prison, and gree for two-state solution. Plus, e don dey fight corruption for him own government too. Abeg, no be small something o!

As the palaver dey go, some people dey feel say to maintain geh peace no go easy, and dem right. E go require serious work, but if the likes of Mandela fit lead people wey don dey fight for years, why we no believe say Marwan fit do am? Na him be the bridge wey go connect everybody, give peace chance.

Now, let’s dey look am from di gbagbati perspective, if Marwan come out and all dis emotions wey dey now calm down, wetin fit happen? Some people dey fear; others dey hopeful. But no be say peace no get price o, wey go need to face dem who dey hard as enemy. Na so peace go fit come, my people.

As we dey abroad dey look our own issues, make we remember say sometimes, na for our worst enemies we fit find the way forward.
