Chai! My people, big gist dey ground for Naija education sector as Federal Government don finally sign new agreement with ASUU wey go change the game! This new covenant na to make sure our university lecturers dey enjoy better life, dem no go suffer again.
After more than two years of back and forth, this agreement wey dem sign na the sweet fruit of hard work wey start since 2017. Dem don shake hands and deliver wahala wey dey affect our tertiary institutions since 2009. E be like say this time, dem finally find solution wey dey stick!
We dey hear say from January 1, 2026, university lecturers go enjoy 40% increase for their salaries. Na serious money be that oo, dem go fit carry am chop better food and live sweet life. E come sweet for my mind as this agreement follow up with some allowances for all dem serious work dem dey do.
Under the new agreement, dem don set up special allowances for academic tools wey lecturers go fit use do research, publish journal, and even go conferences. No be small thing o, dis one go fit help stop brain drain wey dey make our best brains waka go abroad for work.
The government don also restructure some allowances make e dey fair for lecturers wey dey do different tasks. For example, dem go only pay you if you don supervise postgraduate students or mark exam. No be only “I dey there” again, my people!
And abeg, no forget about the new Professorial Cadre Allowance, wey dey put more respect for senior lecturers. Full professors go collect ₦1.74 million annually. Na big big move for our education system, my people!
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, don talk am clear say, “We dey serious about this agreement and we already dey implement am.” No be only mouth, dem don even release circulars wey go guide how all dis allowances go dey work. Na to make sure everything dey transparent.
Alausa also talk say dem no go allow any wahala for academics. “We don arrange am well; we dey pursue peace and harmony for our universities,” he yarn. Kilode? E don dey clear say FG dey serious about turning our education sector around.
But no be only ASUU matter dey ground o, dem dey also look into how to handle other unions like ASUP and NASU. Alausa sabi say dem go still come with fair measures for them too because una know say these agreements no be small matter and no fit finish in just few weeks!
The Minister still talk say this government dey prepare for future by investing in better infrastructure and technology for students and lecturers. “We no dey wait for problem to happen, we dey build environment wey go support our education sector,” he talk.
All these plans dey show say dem wan make Naija become knowledge-based economy wey go fit sustain our young population wey dey eager to learn and change the nation for better.
