Wahala dey ground as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, don open mouth talk say him dey face serious threats to him life! Na wetin? For Abuja yesterday, during governance colloquium wey dem organize for Hajiya Hadiza Bala-Usman’s 50th birthday, Oyedele yan say this tax reform wahala no be child’s play o!

Him talk say e need serious courage to carry out this tax reforms wey go touch many people wey don chop from this system for a long time. As this man dey try fix wetin no dey work, e don dey collect threats like say na normal gist. According to am, ‘Reforms are hard, and tax reforms are even harder. I receive threats simply for trying to fix a broken system,’ na wetin him talk.

The vice president, Kashim Shettima, join mouth say make public servants think about selflessness, discipline, and how to create carry-go on top governance. E no dey sweet when dem dey use their social media to throw shades, abi? Shettima talk say true service dey require sacrifice and consistent character, no be for wahala.

Omo, the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, don also talk say make Nigerians support this new tax reform law wey President Bola Tinubu don introduce, e say na the only way we fit develop sustainably. Don’t forget say the federal government don start enforcement of this new tax laws since January 1, 2026. Na four major laws dem don pass: Nigerian Tax Act 2025, Nigerian Tax Administration Act 2025, Nigerian Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025, and Joint Revenue Board Establishment Act 2025. Na serious level wey go fit change how dem dey do tax for this country.

The heart of the matter na trust – Oyedele don talk say low trust in government and weak tax compliance culture dey affect the process wey we fit move forward. ‘People dey believe say new taxes dey enter dem pocket, while we dey actually try to reduce some of the old ones wey no dey work.’ E suggest say make we dey speak up, because silence dey give room for bad gists to spread.
