Akintunde talk say dem dey work on market-oriented approach wey go fit give farmer results wey go sweet dem belle. No more approach wey dey come from top like say dem dey rain wahala down on farmers.
“AGROW na big initiative wey cost $500 million,” e talk. Dem say na homegrown plan, wey involve government from all levels, private sector and even World Bank sef don put hand for am. This one go fit boost Naija food security no be small.
E go dey focus on important crops like rice, wheat, tomato, sesame and sorghum, wey dey get strong connection to Naija economy plus food wahala. E talk say past agricultural programmes no gree work well because of wahala like no be organized spending, too much subsidies wey no dey help, and land management wey dey confuse.
But AGROW get fresh idea, wey go make states gather their own resources, dey work with farmers, and why not, encourage private sector to join the hustle. Dem wan make sure say every state sabi wetin dem dey do and collect any money dem suppose gather.
Wetin dey inside AGROW dey sweet, na three main components wey dem dey run: help smallholder farmers for market, make on-farm wahala better, and get good coordination to monitor wetin dey happen.
Akintunde tok say states wey wan join the AGROW programme get some conditions to meet up: dem need to sabi sustainable land investment, get digital farmer records, and make sure say no one dey chop money wey dey relate to fees and levies for interstate trade.
