My people, e don happen again o! Uganda don announce dem own internet blackout just two days before presidential election! As dem dey prepare to put President Yoweri Museveni for third term, dem no wan make anybody talk wetin dem no suppose hear.
This na wetin dem call ‘necessary measure’ to fight misinformation and prevent wahala wey fit happen during di election period. Di letter wey Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) send to telecom providers no be small matter. E go start for 6 PM local time and dem go keep am like that until dem fit change dem mind.
Naija, you sabi say dis kain matter don happen for 2021 elections? Dem shut down internet dat time too, and e cause many people to dey vex for di streets because of di allegations of rigging and wahala wey follow am.
Funny enough, government talk say internet go dey free during di elections this time. But wetin dem go do? Na dem go quickly change dem mouth because of ‘uncontrollable misinformation’. Dem say na to protect public confidence and national security. Abeg, who go believe dis kin story?
As e be so, many organizations dey shout say make dem no allow dis kain tin become normal. Dem dey raise voice for freedom of expression and open internet, especially for people wey wan vote. E go make sense if everybody fit hear di latest gists, talk about wetin dey happen, and keep di government people accountable.
People wey dey run dis election governance dey face wahala from di authorities concerning human rights—the way dem dey treat journalists and opposition wey expose di wahala. Journalists dey suffer plenty because dem dey arrest dem anytime dem try report di truth. Wetin go happen to free press for Uganda?
Dem say di internet na life wire—we fit use am for election monitoring, documenting, and for people to talk di matter wey dey face dem. But dis shutdown dey make am difficult for everybody to shine their eyes and follow di process correctly.
As di election day dey approach on January 15, 2026, di call to action don go out. Di organizations wey dey talk on top internet rights dey appeal to President Museveni to allow free internet access. Even di International law dey support, dey talk say government suppose make internet dey available at all times.
People for Uganda dey prepare to vote, dem need make internet dey open. Na only so we go fit see wetin dey really happen and if di elections go clear. If dis internet wahala continue, e go pose serious threat to democracy and human rights for di country. We dey watch and we dey pray make dem fit maintain peace!
