Ajaero no gree keep quiet at all! E say government dey push this tax law like person wey dey run without direction. ‘We no sabi wetin be law again!’ Na wetin Ajaero talk o! E claim say dem laws no get input from regular workers and na dem dey pay the bulk of taxes for naija. As e dey talk am, you fit hear the frustration for im voice like say na im dey pay the tax personally!
No be only Ajaero dey talk matter. Adams Oshiomhole, wey dey represent Edo North for Senate, come step in dey tell NLC make dem no dey mourn over the tax wahala. E tell dem say if dem feel say di laws no dey favor workers, make dem fight back! Oshiomhole no wan hear say dem just dey cry like small children, abi na wahala dem dey expect from government?
For ‘Gram o! Lagos APC dey yan say all dis wahala wey people dey talk about the tax reform na just politics. Dem bin clear say dis reform no go affect poor Nigerians, but rather go help dem avoid extra wahala. Dem dey sing song say e go better for low-income people, while dem collect plenty tax from big bosses wey dey make am too much money.
But the wahala no end there! PDP chieftain Funso Doherty don raise alarm say two different versions of tax law dey fly around like housefly. E swear say when you check NRS website, you fit see different versions wey no even match. Na so confusion dey enter people head, dem no even sabi wetin to follow!
Meanwhile, chairman of the Chartered Institute of Taxation go school you with correct gist on wetin dey for tax matter! He say no body dey tax your bank balance, but if you dey transfer cash, dem go charge you N50 stamp duty. People fit relax but e get rules like na bank to bank transfer go still attract stamp duty. As e dey now, the laws dey protect low wage earners and no be fire wey go burn dem pocket.
To crown the whole gist, if you dey pay rent, the government don come give you 20% relief, but e dey capped at N500,000. Abeg make we no sleep for this tax matter because e get plenty talking to do!
