Abia Teachers Don Call Off Strike, Thanks to Government!

Wahala don settle for Abia State as Nigerian Union of Teachers don suspend their strike wey dem plan to carry go on top government matter.

For one serious two-day technical meeting wey happen recently, Acting Secretary to the Abia State Government, Dr Emmanuel Meribole, meet with dem teachers to clear the air. Na as dem gree to negotiate, the wahala don cool down small.

Dem teachers, led by their chairman Madu Friday and secretary Mrs Nnenna Okonkwo, don drop statement wey dey show how government wan help dem improve their welfare. Dem don talk say governor, Alex Otti, don intervene as e catch wind of all the gbege wey dey happen.

Before this peace matter, NUT don give government seven days to act fast-well, or else strike go waka come. But now, dem don decide to hold their fire as the government don promise to do wetin dem suppose do.

The gist na say, the government don agree give teachers wey still dey on service elongation policy their reinstatement, plus two months salary to show say dem dey serious about di wahala. Na little more action wey dey on ground for teachers wey score 60% and above, dem go receive their Gen.35 soon as schools resume.

Also, dem don talk say primary school teachers go see their TSS, wey be 27.5% of their basic salary, jump into their pocket come January 2026 salary. Senior secondary school teachers too go see better minimum wage adjustment inside their January salaries, wit all the pending money wey dey back log go follow later.

Benefit no go pass teachers without their leave allowances, wey go land after all the necessary checks don clear. Plus, dem don set up committee to settle all di other salary wahala wey dey for JSS and primary school teachers within seven working days. No be small work o!

Madu Friday don dey thank Governor Otti for im quick response to di teachers problem. E even extend appreciation to Acting SSG Meribole wey use im skill run things come make sense for dem. Dem thank everybody wey contribute to di peace making.

As schools go reopen on January 12, 2026, teachers suppose carry their koko and do wetin dem know how to do best. Na only positivity dey ground now, as di union don advise teachers make dem continue to dey law-abiding as dem return to work.
