Wetin dey happen my people? Jersey don finally sign MoU with Nigeria to return over $9.5 million wey dem don discover say na corrupt money. This na good news for our country as the money go help support major infrastructure project. Na wetin dem talk for British High Commission statement.
Mark Temple KC, wey be Jersey Attorney General, sign the agreement for December 2025, and as we dey talk now, dem confirm am officially for Abuja on January 9, 2026. The money na part of wetin dem take forfeit after court ruling for January 12, 2024, say e be proceeds of corruption from contractors wey divert government funds. No be small matter o!
According to the court, dem find out say e dey “more likely than not” na corrupt scheme wey involve big men for Nigeria and their people. Na the Forfeiture of Assets (Civil Proceedings) (Jersey) Law 2018 dem take manage this whole wahala.
Mark Temple talk say this recovery na proof say Jersey dey serious about anti-corruption work and e thank Nigeria for their cooperation. E also stress say e be big win in the fight against corruption, wey don dey plague our system for long.
This new MoU dey continue from two previous agreements wey dem don get, wey don see Jersey don repatriate over $300 million to support three major infrastructure projects wey involve Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Second Niger Bridge, and Abuja-Kano Road. Na serious project wey dem don finish two already, and dis latest agreement go help wrap up work for Abuja-Kano Road, wey be 375-kilometre highway wey dey connect Abuja and Kano, na the second largest city for Naija.
Nigeria Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), don shout praise for this development, say e show how Naija dey try track down illicit funds wey dey outside. E talk say this recovery go show say no place dey safe for those wey won keep corrupt money abroad. Wetin fit make person sleep well pass?
Fagbemi also thank Jersey for their help, assure dem say dem go use the repatriated money well according to the terms of the Memrandum of Understanding. Omo, I just dey wonder how dem go fit manage this money well so e no go end up for wrong hands again!
This na good step for Nigeria as we dey try combat corruption and build our country well. Make we dey watch as more news dey come out concerning better governance and use of our resources, my people.
