Wetin dey happen, my people? Na wetin Senator Barau Jibrin yarn we go run am here today! For Ilorin, as dem organize 15th convocation for Al-Hikmah University, Jibrin drop beta gist wey fit ginger your mind.
Dis man wey dey serve as Deputy Senate President no wan hear say dem dey call National Assembly obedient to executive. E first clear the air, tell us say wetin dey happen between lawmakers and executive no be say dem dey behave like yes-men, na beta governance dem dey pursue. E talk say di relationship wey dey exist na as a result of President Bola Tinubu experience as former governor and senator.
Jibrin explain say, Tinubu sabi di legislative process wella, meaning communication no dey hard like stone for dem like before. E say bills dey waka from legislative discussion before dem go carry am come present officially. This one dey allow for corrections and make everything dey pass speedily. Na so di relationship dey fly!
But wait, no be everybody dey see am like dat. Some dey reason am like say di National Assembly just dey rubber stamp wetin di executive wan do. Jibrin don bust their bubble, ask dem, ‘If collaboration fit bring results, why we go enter wahala?’ Man get point abeg!
E come remind us say back in di days, tension dey plenty between di legislative arm and executive. Dis one na because of di long military rule wey dey affect wetin dem dey do for democracy matter. According to Jibrin, past presidents dey too directive, no dey consult anybody. But now, all of dem don learn small-smal, dey use better consulting method.
The Senator no stop for there, e still talk about wetin democracy really mean. For am to thrive, na wisdom and respect for di constitution we go need. Na so e come urge di graduating students to hold tight to democratic values, demand accountability, and fit contribute to nation-building. Na small work but dem fit do am if dem serious!
As dem dey celebrate di 15th convocation, 76 students receive first-class degrees out of 2,883. E no be small matter! Di Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lateef Oladimeji, dey proud as he announce say 1,008 get second class upper, 996 second class lower, and 112 collect third-class degrees. E still talk say 485 students carry Master’s degrees and 79 PhDs follow for di celebration. Na real achievement!
Prof. Oladimeji also don praise di founder of di school, Alhaji AbdulRaheem Oladimeji, as e dey encourage di university to shine. And make we no forget Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, wey provide di space wey allow di university to grow. Na teamwork wey dey help everybody!
So my people, as dem finish di convocation, make we dey look forward to wetin Jibrin talk. E get as e go fit change di narrative on how we dey do governance for Naija. Make we cross our fingers and dey watch how everything go turn out! Democracy no go fit shine without all of us contributing our quota!
