According to gist wey our PUNCH correspondent gather, dis request come after President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Interior, and NSCDC Commandant General hold meeting last month. Di matter be say many people dey ask for VIP protection especially as police don pull dem hand for dat side.
Wetin make things even more serious be say dis recruitment go join di ongoing recruitment wey NSCDC dey do to take care of 30,000 other personnel. Dem dey prepare to boost their number because VIPs dey hot cake for town now.
One source wey sabi di matter yarn say, ‘E don clear say with di current demand for VIP protection, we need more hands. Di president don promise say e go consider our request well well.’ Na serious assurance wey dem get from di big man.
Di challenge come when police officers wey dey secure VIPs were asked to return back to dey do community work because wahala dey chop people for different states – kidnapping and all those kasala. Now, NSCDC dey face pressure as people dey flood dem office dey apply to join for VIP protection cause no be joke!
According to one senior officer wey dey work for NSCDC, ‘Na so e be o! Di police don leave us with plenty wahala because dem dey withdrawn plenty of their men wey dey follow VIPs.’ Na so dem dey catch dem hand to deploy any available officer wey fit handle gun, train dem well to face dis new challenge wey dey come.
Dis whole recruitment palava follow wetin President Tinubu talk when e give order for recall of over 11,566 police officers wey dey with VIPs. Na so dem fit quickly refocus dem attention back to di areas wey dey suffer under crime and correct level of policing.
Wetin make matter vex be say per di European Union report wey land for November, over 100,000 police officers dey assigned to VIPs! Na real gbege wey mean say ordinary people no dey see enough police for their matter. Di report talk say Nigerian Police Force dey operate with around 371,800 officers fit do di work for about 236 million people. E no dey balance at all o! Plenty officers dey protect politicians while di streets dey cry for help.
