One nurse wey dey work for Federal Medical Centre, Jabi for Abuja, Chinemerem Chukwumeziem, just fall victim for this rising insecurity matter wey dey affect nurses and other healthcare workers across the country.
Enya Osinachi, wey be the national secretary for National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) don they talk am clear say dis murder no fit just pass like that. She dey urge government to take serious action to protect nurses wey dey face this kind gbege upandan. Chinemerem just finish her shift and go enter public transport go house, but the journey no reach as she jam criminals wey no get any sense. Na wetin be all this now?
Dis kain violence dey show say security no dey for healthcare workers, wey dey risk their lives to take care of sick people. Osinachi talk say dem fit no collect much sympathy from people but if government no gree put measures wey go protect nurses, e go just be like say dem dey waste time. Dem need sharp action, and no be only talk!
NANNM dey call on government make dem make investigations wey go carry proper results, arrest those way do this evil thing, and make sure say security dey around hospitals. Dem also need make public transport safe for nurses after dem don work long shifts. How we go fit lose our caregivers just like that?
Dem dey demand for better hazard allowances and life insurance for nurses wey dey risk their lives every day. If no be for dem, how patients go fit recover? If dem keep killing nurses like this, e go create big wahala for public health sef because patients go dey fear to go hospital again!
Chinemerem’s death dey remind us say we dey lose patient care and trust every time we lose these essential workers. Osinachi talk say dis wahala fit turn point for better policies for nurses if only government fit hear the cry wey dey come from the community.
