Allen Onyema, wey be the CEO of Air Peace, don come out with serious warning say if government continue to dey pile tax upon tax, na so e go be say ticket price go dey hit 1 million naira before we go know wetin dey happen!

Onyema yarn this for one show wey dem call ARISE NEWS, tell us say dem dey choke the airline business with plenty taxes and levies wey no make sense. E come give example, if you buy ticket wey na 350,000 naira, na only 81,000 naira dey enter the airline pocket. Wetin remain? Na government agencies go take all the rest! E be like say dem dey run airline as charity instead of business!

Make I no hear say you dey think say na only airlines dey suffer this wahala o! The koko be say if airlines jam down, na everybody go dey feel am: passengers go dey pay more, banks go dey suffer because dem don invest plenty money for this sector and economy go turn upside down. Yoruba dem sabi talk say ‘omo agba eko le ma ja’, but wetin happen if e no mature?

Onyema go on drop bombshell say this tax reintroduction for Value Added Tax (VAT) and customs duties fit make airlines no fit breath again. Back in 2020, government don do am right by removing VAT from ticket prices and aircraft imports, but now they don bring wetin we no request for back! E come dey say ‘we dey suffer for multiple taxation, e be like say dem just dey wahala us’. Na wetin be all this na?

And uncool matter dey say Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) don dey collect 5% from every ticket. Just 5%! But when you add the new 7.5% VAT on aircraft and parts, e begin dey look like say dem wan carry the whole airline on their head. Na who go fly again if the price reach 1.7 million naira for economy class?

All these don vex Onyema well well, as e ask for immediate attention from government. E no wan make dem wait until airlines start to crash before dem go understand waiting dey hapun. E even say dem don go National Assembly kọọ́ and speak their mind, but people wey suppose listen no gree do anything.

Onyema even dey hail the current government as dem dey listen small, but make we no forget say listening nor go feed this aviation dragons wey dey snatch airlines wahala every day. E commend President Bola Tinubu say he be businessman wey sure no want local businesses to dey suffer.

So as we dey enter new year, make we all cross our fingers say government go see reason and fit reduce this taxes before e turn full mess!
