Chai! Na serious matter be this o. As 2026 dey waka come, state governments for Naija dey plan big budgets, but e be like say dem no fit collect enough money from their own pockets. Na so dem dey run come meet Abuja for help, borrowing money like say na candy dem dey buy!
After we check wetin dem propose, e be like say no many states fit stand well with wetin dem fit generate locally, plenty of dem dey look up to federal allocations and loans. E no be news say Abuja dey provide most of their funds, and e dey raise eyebrows for how dem go fit carry these ambitious projects.
Lagos, wey be the commercial king, don set to spend N4.237 trillion – the highest any state don ever budget before! Governor Sanwo-Olu talk say dem go use about N3.12 trillion from wetin dem dey generate for inside Lagos and other federal support. But me I dey wonder, wetin go happen if dem no fit collect the expected funds?
Meanwhile, Abia dey struggle small, as dem budget N1.016 trillion, and over N800 billion go capital projects. But them still dey expect plenty cash from Abuja, and that one no dey too encouraging. Na high time dem learn how to make money from inside their states instead of waiting for handouts!
Ogun State too dey follow similar waka. Dem budget N1.669 trillion but na majorly transfer from Abuja dem dey depend on. If dem no fit manage wetin dem budget well, wahala go dey.
For Enugu, dem don raise dem budget to N1.62 trillion wey dey rely on multiple sources, but analysts don dey caution say dem gatz find better ways to generate cash without running to Abuja all the time. This dependency no go help dem in the long run.
Delta State dey plan N1.664 trillion, and dem hopeful say after dem remove subsidy, their revenue go increase. Chai! This na gamble because if federal funds no show, na fallback dem go get!
Another state wey get interesting story na Sokoto. Dem budget N758.7 billion but over 80% of wetin go fund am dey come from Abuja. Jos, those states need strong strategies to make their economies work better.
Experts dey talk say na local revenue and smarter spending go help states more than relying on federal allocations. For those wey no dey manage their budgets well, like Edo and Bayelsa, they better wake up before e go too late oo!
As we dey look towards 2026, one thing clear: e no go easy for dem at all. Dem gatz sabi how to manage dem finances, create jobs, and improve business environment. Na so dem go fit stand strong without relying too much on federal hands.
