My people, as we dey talk now, Ivory Coast don hold parliamentary elections, and believe me, e no be light matter o!
Na Saturday wey just pass, dem start di voting, but wahala no waste time show face. Scuffles don break out for different places as people try gather to cast their votes. Dis one come two months after Alassane Ouattara gbadun presidential election wey extend im rule wey don dey since 14 years. Omo, di drama no be small!
More than eight million people registered to vote for members of di national assembly, but you fit guess wetin? Tensions dey always de surrounding elections for Ivory Coast, sometimes na violence go show face. Di security forces no wan take chances, so dem keep over 40,000 personnel for ground, wey dey help control di situation.
Ibrahime Kuibiert Coulibaly, wey be di head of di independent electoral commission, come out contact say di scuffles wey happen no be big deal. E say dem don handle am well, and no be all dis ones go affect di voting process. But abeg, dem no give any more details.
Alassane Ouattara, wey win im fourth term for di presidential election, self don cast im ballot for di legislative race. Meanwhile, rain no gree polling stations for di main city, Abidjan, to open on time. Na wetin? E open one hour late, as rain dey pour well well.
One student, Assi Gilles Darus Aka of 21 years, come talk say e dey vote for candidate wey go help students enter workforce. Na him civic duty, but when dem check turnout, you fit laugh wey e wan cry. For some polling stations, barely 20 people don vote out of 400 wey register!
Dem dey look at di ruling party, RHDP, wey dey control 255-seat national assembly for dis election. Dem don put candidates wey include Prime Minister Robert Beugre Mambe and Tene Birahima Ouattara, wey be di president younger brother. As e be now, di opposition no dey too strong since a lot of dem don dey exclude from di previous election.
Last election for October, Ouattara clear votes with 90 percent, but di road no dey smooth. Eleven people die during di wahala wey surround di election, plus many opposition supporters don dey detained, even one deputy sef! Dem don also notice say former president Laurent Gbagbo’s party come dey boycott di legislative election, but some of dem come dey stand as independent candidates.
As di voting dey go, we dey keep our eyes open for wetin go happen next. Naija people, wetin you tink? E go better for dem or wahala go dey again? My people, remember say anytime wey we dey talk election, na so trouble dey follow if care no dey taken!
