Omo naija, na Christmas again o! Time for jolly-jolly gists

Omo, Christmas don show like say na yesterday we dey celebrate am!

As we dey enter this season wey everybody dey jolly, make I just yan small about the tunes wey dey blow mind for this festive time.

I remember when I dey listen to Johnny Mathis and Perry Como, my heart dey full of nostalgia like say I just find old photo album. Na dem songs take me go childhood time when my parents dey around and Christmas no get wahala! But time no dey wait for nobody, my pipo don go and house wey we dey tape cards don change owners.

Now, na different kind vibe dey hit my speakers. Spotify don turn my Christmas playlist to another thing. Instead of waiting for old songs wey my mamas and papas like, na new jamz I dey chop like “Christmas Wrapping” by the Waitresses. You fit believe say 1981 song don carry myself and plenty Gen Z’s go sweet vibes every December!

Some songs still dey carry that melancholic feel like say dem wan remind us say Christmas no be only about jolly. “I Believe in Father Christmas” wey Greg Lake drop no be your regular Christmas song. E dey talk about expectation and reality for holiday season, and how our childhood belief don fade. “Circle of Steel” by Gordon Lightfoot too dey remind us say na so life be; e dey hard for some people. Na here we go rally round to show love at dis season.

Meanwhile, Band Aid dey carve new path with their jam “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” dem dey shout out for people wey dey struggle during Christmas. We no go forget the year wey dem sing am, the continente save money chop better fine jolly.

No dey vex for me o, I still dey jam “Wonderful Christmastime” by my guy Paul McCartney because na dat song carry me enter holiday mood matter. Na old school vibes wey no dey fade!

As we dey cross into new trend for Christmas sounds, I dey sabi say some oddball jams fit come join my list. You fit hear “Snoopy’s Christmas” wey make everybody smile or “Christmas in the Trenches” wey dey give us historical reminder about humanity even when war dey ground.

If you wan twist am with funk, James Brown dey drop banger wey dey make you shake body. “Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto” na reminder say we suppose think of our people wey dey hustle while we dey enjoy.

But no matter how things be, make we remember each other as we dey hustle di season. If no be anything, na the small happiness wey dey every tune wey we dey play during dis season of giving, love, and togetherness.

Make everybody join hands, celebrate how far we don go, and hope say next year dey bring better plenty blessings. Merry Christmas, Naija style!
