ASUU, wey be the Academic Staff Union of Universities for dat school, don share scholarship of N6.2 million to 31 indigent students. Na Dr. Ganiyu Yinusa, wey be the chairperson of ASUU OOU chapter, carry this gist come out on Sunday.
Dr. Yinusa talk say each of the beneficiaries go collect N200,000 wey go help dem pay their school fees and other necessary charges for the 2025/2026 academic session. You fit imagine how many wahala e go off dem shoulder! Dis kind financial support no be small thing, e dey show say ASUU dey try to help students wey no too get financial wahala.
He explain say the Indigent Students Scholarship Scheme na initiative wey dem fund mainly from money wey dem dey collect for sitting allowances from meetings wey the University Council dey do. Dem also add some contributions from ASUU OOU branch. Dis kind collective sacrifice dey show how much dem care about the welfare of students.
As dem gree say no student wey qualify suppose miss education due to money matter, ASUU praise the members wey contribute dem sitting allowances. E no easy o, but dem still sacrifice for the good of education and human capital. Na big commendation, jare!
Dr. Yinusa talk say this scholarship na part of ASUU’s larger vision wey be to make education dey available for every qualified student, so no student go drop out because of money wahala. Dem also remind the beneficiaries say make dem focus on their studies, because dis wahala no be just financial support, na also call to excellence.
Still dey talk about education, the Managing Director of Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Akintunde Sawyerr, don drop serious matter. He talk say since dem start the NELFUND 19 months ago, dem don share N154.3 billion as loans to over 788,000 students! Chai, education no suppose be for only the rich abi?
Sawyerr talk say dem don receive over 1.2 million applications since dem start to distribute the loans. Of all the money dem don disburse, na N82.34 billion go for school fees, while N72.02 billion na for students’ upkeep. Na so dem dey try make sure say education dey reach everybody for country.
Omo, with all this support, e be like say students for OOU go fit focus and achieve wetin dem wan achieve. ASUU dey show say dem no be only for staff, dem dey gree carry students matter for head too. Na big win for education sector!
