The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) don drop heavy warning for the Inspector General of Police, say make e no try enforce the tinted glass permit nonsense wey dem wan start from January 2, 2026. Dem gree talk say di matter still dey for court, so make police no go look anyhow.
For statement wey NBA president, Mazi Afam Osigwe, sign, dem urge President Bola Tinubu to intervene. Na wah! Dem talk say di police no fit just waka commot dey do wetin dem like, especially after CSP Benjamin Hundeyin don yarn say enforcement go start again. Abeg, na so dem dey disrespect court authority?
Na dem go still talk say on September 2, 2025, dem don carry matter go federal court for Abuja, challenge di legality of this tinted glass policy. Dem dey actually question di law wey allow police to dey collect money from citizens under di guise of enforcement. According to dem, dis Tinted Glass (Prohibition) Act fit be military-era law wey don lose appeal for democratic Nigeria.
NBA don even talk say law wey National Assembly waka put no get weight and dem dey call am unconstitutional. Na him dem dey fear say police go start extorting and harassing people again, una know how dem dey do! Dem no wan make people suffer wey don already dey manage economic wahala.
Ogah, dem don remind us say di Warri court don already order say all parties maintain di status quo, so police no suppose touch di policy until di matter don settle for court. But wetin happen? As e be now, IGP Kayode Egbetokun don hold ground say di tinted glass permit policy lawful. But di NBA no gree hear word, saying di police dey use di policy to collect money instead of following di law. Hundeyin, di police PRO, don talk say dem go still keep di policy in di name of protecting di public, but wetin we go do if dem no follow di law?
