CBN Don Give New Rules For Foreign Cards, Make Naija Shine

For December 18, 2025, CBN release one circular wey say all banks and non-bank acquirers need to start dey use multi-factor authentication for any foreign card transaction wey pass $200 every day. Na serious matter be this o, because we sabi say plenty people dey travel come Naija, and dem dey need smooth transaction when dem land.

CBN talk say this move na to make sure say tourists and Nigerians wey dey live abroad fit access their money without wahala. Imagine person come Naija for holiday, and dem no fit use the card wey dem bring. E go spoil the whole vibe! So CBN want make sure say all ATM and POS dey ready to accept international cards without stress.

Dem also add say for any foreign transactions wey pass $500 weekly or $1,000 monthly, banks go need to implement the same multi-factor style. This one go make everything transparent and secure. No more gbege, my people!

As part of the new rules, CBN talk say all banks need to comply with market-driven exchange rates and show customers how much dem go pay before transaction start. This go help we wey dey used to hiding charges as if na treasure.

E no end there! All banks dey instructed to ensure say dem follow proper KYC and anti-money laundering protocols, so as to catch any suspicious matter wey fit happen. No shaking!

Still on top the gist, CBN also don urge banks to make sure their customers fit get contactless payment options for small transactions. This one go make am easier for people wey dey rush. If person wan buy quick chop, e no go need to stress anyhow.

For merchants, CBN don dey clear say dem need to make sure say all transaction receipts dey signed well, and valid ID must dey for any suspicious transaction. E be like say dem dey serious this time around, as dem dey ready to report anything wey no follow come to the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit.

CBN don talk say dem go dey monitor how all the banks and financial institutions dey carry out this new directive, and any institution wey no follow go collect their pepper as sanction. Na so road be, my people!
