Gbenga Komolafe, wey be the head of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), talk say dem don receive over 42 bids from different companies to tap gas wey dey come from 49 sites for Niger Delta region. As e be, 14 companies still dey hustle to meet up requirements, but 28 don carry their own waka go collect permit sharp sharp.
Wetin we go gain from this matter? Komolafe yarn say between 250 and 300 million standard cubic feet of gas go dey captured and commercialized! This gas na jackpot o, because e fit unlock up to $2 billion investment and create more than 100,000 jobs wey go help many Naija people dey hustle for their bread.
As we dey talk, Nigeria still dey try reduce carbon emissions, wey dey cause wahala for our environment. Dem estimate say this initiative go fit reduce about six million tons of carbon dioxide wey dey enter the air every year! Na, this dey part of Naija plan to reach net zero emissions by 2060. We dey focus on clean energy and we no wan dey burn gas like say na smokey BBQ.
Naija gass reserves don pass oil reserves, but for long, dem dey waste am by flaring during oil production because no be dem find way to use am before. But now, with this new Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Program, we dey see the light as e be! Dem wan turn waste to wealth and at the same make sure say our gas dey put food for table!
According to NUPRC, in October wey just pass, Nigeria gass output reach 221 billion standard cubic feet, but about 7.6% of am still dey flare. This new project go bring more gass for our economy, and Naija fit use this chance hold the world for gas market!
