The case was marked BK/358c’/2022.
Prosecution lawyer Malam Jibril Abba told the court that the three men assaulted Chief Magistrate Kokani as he was performing his ablutions in the mosque.
He said they were arrested after the plaintiff reported the matter.
The prosecutor told the court that the police were ready to open his case, but due to the absence of the main witness, he will seek an adjournment.
The officials were not represented in court.
Justice Hassan Kwaido adjourned the case until November 28 to receive further citations.
Speaking to reporters after the case was suspended, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Sani Dan-Yaro, explained that all his client wanted was justice.
Dan-Yaro said the action by public officials could send the wrong signal to people in society at large that anyone could be assaulted and get away with it if a chief magistrate could be assaulted without consequence.
“What we want is justice. We don’t want a situation where people take the law into their own hands and think nothing will happen,” he said.
