Detectives in Sydney, Australia are investigating the first gang-related murder in six months after a 40-year-old father was shot in front of his young son.
The motive of the targeted shooting is still unknown, and there are theories that his death could have been a case of mistaken identity.
The victim had connections to individuals known to police and was associated with a boxing and martial arts facility on Carlingford Street.
Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, head of the NSW homicide squad, said that this could be an isolated incident not connected to any pre-existing feuds but the police still have an open mind about the case.
There has been a dramatic reduction in shootings and murders in the past year, and this brings police confidence that they have made headway against criminal activity.
Witnesses reported two men fleeing the scene after one of them shot at the victim.
The person responsible is yet to be found, and police are asking anyone with information, or who may have dashcam footage taken that morning, to reach out.
This is a tragedy for the family and community.
Police are doing their best to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice and the mystery behind the motives of this isolated shooting is discovered.
This is yet another on-going reminder of the dangers and destruction of gang-related activities and a call to stay vigilant and fiercely oppose such criminal behaviour.

The manatee is an incredible creature that has become locally renowned in Crystal River, with murals, mailboxes, and statues all featuring them.
Bad news for manatees propogated for some time as their population declined, yet human intervention has allowed for some population recovery.
However, their primary food source, seagrass, is in danger.
A depletion of seagrass meadows has had not only environmental but commercial devastation, as these areas are home to a variety of aquatic species and are relied upon by the local fishing, tourism, and restaurant industries.
To rebuild Crystal River and the manatee populations, the organization Save Crystal River has set out to complete a pilot project by July 1, 2023.
The goal of this project is to be a model for other similar communities facing this problem.
Lisa Moore, president of Save Crystal River, reminds us to appreciate such unique places and to be aware that similar challenges can arise.
The Retreat at Crystal Manatee is located in the heart of Crystal River, a five minute walk from downtown areas and the local park.
Within, guests can find freshly-baked pastries and nearby, the emerald-hued Wallace’s at the Greenhouse can satisfy culinary desires.
If an outing for the day is desired, Explorida offers a variety of boat trips such as manatee swimming, scallop dives, and private sunset cruises.
Humans have an incredible impact on species, in both negative and positive ways.
Through human intervention and environmental protection, Crystal River is beginning to reclaim its heritage and rebuild a safe community for manatees.

Australia made strides in the third Test against India, claiming a first international five-wicket haul from left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann and batting highlights from Usman Khawaja's 60.
The Indian team were sent packing for a mere 109 runs after winning the toss and electing to bat first in the spin-friendly conditions.
Nate Lyon's 3-35 was also integral to India's batting downfall.
In Australia's 156-4 response, Rohit Sharma was tested by two wickets that umpire Nitin Menon did not deem out.
Khawaja was initially struggling in the tough conditions, as were Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, both of whom were caught out.
A 96-run stand between Labuschagne and Khawaja was the stand out performance for the Australians before Khawaja was caught out for 61.
Amit Jadeja was India's star bowler, claiming the impressive figures of 4-63.
Australia's Head and Smith both fell to Jadeja, the former lbw and the latter caught behind.
The pitch at this Test drew criticism from former Test batsmen Mark Waugh and Matthew Hayden who said it was not up to Test-standard, with balls going through too quickly in the first twenty minutes.
Indicating the excessive weight given to spin bowling, Hayden said it "shouldn't be a spin-bowler's paradise."
The two-nil scoreline heading into the third Test meant that Australia were out of contention to win, the players on both sides nonetheless put on an intense show, with the day ending in favour of the tourists.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka (£8.5m) has the perfect opportunity to rack up good attacking returns in Fantasy Premier League's Gameweek 26 as his side face off against AFC Bournemouth at home.
He has been a stable and reliable performer at home, with only one blank in his last eight matches at the Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the Bournemouth side has so far conceded an alarming 48 goals - the highest in the league - and managed only one clean sheet away from home.
Manchester City's Erling Haaland (£12.2m) will captain the team, with Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane (£11.7m) taking the vice-captain position.
Kepa Arrizabalaga (CHE) (£4.7m) of Chelsea, Arsenal's Gabriel (£5.2m), Brentford's Ben Mee (£5.0m), Spurs' Emerson Royal (£4.9m), Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma (£5.3m) and Brentford's Ivan Toney (£7.6m) have also been included in the lineup.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has earned an impressive 6.0 points per start at home since the start of the season, and he will host be facing a Leeds United side who have had difficulties scoring, having failed to find the net in three of their last four away matches overall.
Gabriel, on the other hand, has proven effective in both defensive and attacking roles, having made 15 shots in the box and his visitors who have only scored one goal in their last five away trips.
Ben Mee has had a strong season at home, yielding 65 points so far, as he will welcome Fulham to Brentford.
Royale faces a Wolverhampton Wanderers side coming off poor performances and his excellent form for Spurs has seen him pick up two goals, four clean sheets and eight bonus points in the last six matches.
Bukayo Saka already earned 12 points in his last home outing, and his versatile threat should give the Arsenal wing another opportunity for a good score.
Lastly, Mitoma, who averages 6.2 points per start at home in his debut season, hosts West Ham United off the back of two goals, an assist and 26 points in his last four home matches.

On a cold night in North Ferriby, Burnley's U21 team secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Hull City in the Professional Development League.
The match report noted that Allahyar Sayyadmanesh opened the scoring for the hosts, but goals from Marcel Lewis and Ne-Jai Tucker kept things level.

Ultimately, it was Seb Thompson's last-minute strike that secured the victory, as his shot into the corner of the net sealed the game.
Thanks to this win, the Clarets moved level on points with Hull and earned their first victory in three attempts.

Fourteen years on since his conversation with a team-mate in a Manchester airport duty free shop, Craig Bellamy is now 43 and leading an imperfect life.
He is aware of his rage and explosions but what stands out and is admirable is his drive to succeed.
He is an ideal coach as he is able to emphasize to young players the importance of discipline and dedication.
Though he may lack the diplomacy for the top role of manager, Bellamy has found a role with his former Manchester City team-mate, Kompany in Belgium at Anderlecht, thus revolutionizing the profession.
And football players should take a lesson from his experiences which prove how hard the professional environment is.
Bellamy also questioned and criticized the prestige of the Ballon d'Or and awards like it, as they do not pay proper tribute to key role players in the team and are usually dominated by the same players.
He cited the example of Graeme Souness and Roy Keane, who never made the top three in the award even after leading their respective teams to incredible successes.
The midfielder is also a key figure in Manchester United's League cup success last Sunday, albeit for all the wrong reasons.
The free-kick was delivered onside with Casemiro scoring the goal, however, another player on the team, Weghorst, was offside and was seen deliberately blocking the run of two Newcastle defenders.
Bellamy observed that while it is unlikely they could have prevented the goal, it was still interference and it brings to light the issue of confusion surrounding offside law in football.
As for Yaya Toure, he recently received the 2023 Football Writers' Association Tribute Award in recognition of his remarkable contribution to the national game.
Bellamy's experiences and opinions help to emphasize the point that one should pay more attention to team unity rather than relying solely on individual awards like the Ballon d'Or. With his advice and coaching skills, future football players and coaches will find a strong foundation for success.

Manchester United’s night ended on a glorious note with a 3-1 victory over West Ham at Old Trafford thanks to a late goal by Argentine attacker Alejandro Garnacho.
Despite David Moyes’ side taking the lead controversially through Said Benahma’s strike, it wasn’t long before Nayef Aguerd’s own goal brought the Red Devils level.
Then Garnacho's lively display picked up momentum when he delivered a decisive strike in the 90th minute, and was sealed with Fred’s added-time goal.

The Health Funders Association, which represents 35 medical schemes and 5.6 million members in South Africa, has filed a complaint against three of the country's largest private pathology laboratories to the Competition Commission: Pathcare, Ampath, and Lancet.
The complaint alleges these laboratories have profited from the Covid-19 PCR testing services they offer, and the association is looking to recuperate such gains to offset expenses medical schemes may have incurred.
The Competition Commission has disclosed that these labs' costs for carrying out the PCR tests dropped significantly between March 2020 and September 2021, despite charging exorbitant rates for their services.
It goes on to state that the laboratories have gained significant profits from the tests since the onset of the pandemic.
The Competition Commission has previously handled complaints of unjustified and excessive pricing, so it remains to be seen what action will be taken for this particular case.
The Health Funders Association is seeking to get clarity on how much the laboratories made by performing Covid-19 PCR tests and consequently hopes that legal action can be taken to recover the money to help alleviate costs in the future.

Yesterday marked a flurry of trades in the NHL that have kept the trade deadline interesting and exciting leading up to the Friday deadline.
Notable deals included the trading of Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks to the New York Rangers and Mattias Ekholm from Nashville to Edmonton.
This is especially beneficial for the Oilers, as Ekholm is viewed as one of the most reliable defencemen in the league and will be under contract for the next three years.
Evander Kane should be returning soon from injury, giving Edmonton a bit more scoring, but their crease is still an issue.
The Leafs, on the other hand, acquired several new players such as Luke Schenn, Erik Gustafsson and Jacob Markstrom while Jonathan Quick was moved to Columbus.
With Ryan O'Reilly and Sam Lafferty also coming in, the Leafs look tougher and potentially primed for postseason play.
In other news, the Jets had been doing well with Connor Hellebuyck's Vezina-calibre goalie performances, but with a recent four-game losing streak, including blowing a two-goal lead to the Kings last night, their playoff spot is now at risk.
The Habs and Canucks are both towards the bottom of the standings and have made very few moves so far.
With the deadline fast approaching, it will be interesting to see which teams make the final attempts at bolstering their rosters.

The Colorado Avalanche have been on a roll this season, with their latest performance solidifying their place amongst the NHL's top teams.
According to CBS Sports' NHL rankings, the Avalanche sit at fifth place and are just four points behind the Dallas Stars.
To bolster further success, the defending Stanley Cup champions acquired center Lars Eller earlier this week.
Even with a recent loss to the New Jersey Devils, the Avalanche are poised to stay in contention for the upcoming playoffs.
CBS Sports writer Austin Nivison believes the Western conference will be quite competitive as the season winds down, with multiple teams in the mix.
It's very likely that Colorado will continue their streaky performance to stay in the race.
