Ogun workers suspend strike after four days
The much-anticipated television reality show, Big Brother Titans, began with a lot of excitement on Sunday (today).
Unlike the usual Big Brother Naija format which features only Nigerians, and Big Brother Africa, which has housemates from across the continent, this particular show is open to only Nigerians and South Africans.
The first housemate to be unveiled was a 25-year-old South African female called Cossy. She described herself as a fun-loving, but also ‘serious’ person.
The second housemate to be unveiled was a Nigerian, Yemi Cregx. He stated that he was looking forward to learning more about South Africans in the course of the show.
The duo wasted no time in striking up a conversation. At a point, Cregx helped Cossy to adjust her wig; an action that resonated on social media, with many people posting about it.
Other South African housemates are Juicy Jay, Nelisa, Mmeli, Khosi, Ipeleng, Thabang, Yaya, Khehla, Tsatii, and Justin.
Nigerian contestants are Olivia, Blaqboy, Nana, Marven, Jaypee, Ebubu, Jenni O, Kanaga, and Yvonne.
Expectedly, there has been a lot of buzz about the show, especially as it is coming at a time when the country is preparing for general elections.
In a speech by John Ugbe, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, the organiser of the show, he stated that due to the popularity of the show, it was practically inevitable not to pair Nigerians and South Africans in one house.
Reacting to criticism that the show will distract Nigerian youths from the forthcoming general elections, he maintained that Nigerian youths knew their priorities.
He said, “As two of the biggest economies in Africa, it was only a matter of time before something like this would come up. Just like there has been a clash of music genres such as afrobeats (Nigeria) and amapiano (South Africa), there was bound to be something of this nature.”
In the course of the show, there was also an announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission educating Nigerians on the process of collecting their permanent voter’s cards.
Viewers were also treated to pictures of the expansive and well-designed house the contestants will call home for the coming weeks.
The reality show will run for 72 days (over 10 weeks). It also retains some of the Big Brother features, such as diary sessions, Head of House games, Friday night parties, and tasks.
It will be co-hosted by Nigerian, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, and Lawrence Maleke, a South African.
Guests at the live screening of the show include Saga, Dorathy Bachor and Gerald (Nigerian Idol winner). Self-acclaimed Koko master, D’banj also performed at the event.
The last edition of BBN (Level Up) aired from July 23 to October 2, 2022. It was won by Phyna, and she smiled to the bank with a grand prize of N100m; while the last BBA held almost a decade ago in 2014. The winner, Tayo Faniran (Nigerian) went home with $300,000 worth of prizes.

Fans of AC Ajaccio are waiting with bated breath for this match. This is due to AS Monaco’s 2-1 victory in the previous match. AC Ajaccio’s upcoming match is unlikely to be won by AS Monaco because AS Monaco has won the previous three games. In terms of goals, AS Monaco is the favorite because they have scored 7 in the last three games, while AC Ajaccio has only scored 2.
The teams shouldn’t have any problems with the expected slow winds. The players shouldn’t become too worn out too quickly because the matchday temperatures won’t likely soar above 12°C. The likelihood of the teams having to play in the rain, which is about 61%, is also a possibility.
Given that Monaco, which is fifth in the league, is expected to maintain their lead; especially considering that they are twelve league positions ahead of AC AJACCIO.

Follow for all LIVE updates from the Ligue 1 clash between Rennes and PSG.
Majer gets to strike another freekick. But this time doesn’t get it past the wall. Messi getting a lot of the ball down the right flank. PSG building up momentum.
Doue draws a foul from Sergio Ramos and it is a freekick from a promising territory for Rennes. Meanwhile, Mbappe comes in for Ekitike. Majer’s driven freekick had to be dealt with by Donnarumma, who has been the busier of the two goalkeepers today.
Bernat is being a constant threat down the left. Neymar is dropping deep and probing Rennes open with some clever passes.
PSG loses the ball in the midfield again, but Rennes can’t produce a shot this time. Bernat creates a corner for PSG down the left. Short corner and PSG circulates the ball back into the box and Mandanda has to make a save against Danilo to keep it 0-0.
PSG starts off the second half. The defending champion will be looking to put in a better show this time out.
PSG tries to step up its game in the end stage of the first half. But the home side defends resolutely, particularly against Messi. Just one minute added on and it passes by uneventfully. Half-time and it is 0-0.
Another shot from Rennes and another save from Donnarumma. It is Gouiri this time and the Italian keeper had to dive low to his left to keep that one out. Rennes on the rise here.
PSG is lacking composure, particularly in the midfield. Veratti’s absence is vivid in this lineup as Rennes looks to exploit PSG in transitions.
Rennes looking particularly danger in counter attacks, while PSG is yet to get its act together. Neymar gives the ball away cheaply and Kalimuendo sets off and is fouled and Rennes now has a freekick just outside the box. Donnarumma stays sharp to clear his lines.
Truffert overlaps into space and delivers a sharp low cross into the path of Kalimunedo, who diverted it goalwards. Donnarumma had to be alert to palm it out of dangers way. Positive signs for Rennes.
Vitinha steals a ball from midfield and tries to go for it from long range. Once again, the shot goes flying beyond Mandanda’s goal. PSG continues to shuttle the ball around, without much purpose.
Bernat finds Messi in space outside the box and the Argentine went for left footed curler, which flew high and wide off the target. Good bit of football from PSG.
Messi forced to retreat and win the ball for PSG. A stop in play due to an extra ball on the field. Vitinha steals the ball from Majer and PSG sets off an a counter. But Rennes rushed its resources back in time.
Messi and Neymar try to combine their way through, but Traore was there to steal the ball away. PSG builds up slowly from the back, pushing Rennes’ block back, bit by bit.
Former PSG player Kalimuendo with the first shot of the game. But it is too tame as Donnarumma makes an easy save. Rennes has grown into the game with its full-throttle pressing.
Neymar with an outside-of-the-boot pass to unlock the Rennes defence. But the home defence was aligned correctly to stop it. Both Messi and Neymar are dropping deep to influence play.
Rennes letting PSG have the ball. Despite some high pressing from the home side, PSG move the ball around easily.
And Rennes kicks the game off. PSG in its white kit, while Rennes in the home colours of red and black.
Kylian Mbappe has been left on the bench as Galtier opts for Ekitike up front, with Messi and Neymar alongside.
Rennes XI : Mandanda; Traore, Wooh, Rodon, Theate, Truffert; Majer, Ugochukwu, Doue; Kalimuendo, Gouiri
PSG XI : Donnarumma; Mukiele, Marquinhos, Ramos, Bernat; Vitinha, Danilo, Zaire-Emery; Messi; Ekitike, Neymar
PSG’s domestic challenge continues as it heads up to Rennes, on Monday, with its electric trio -- Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar -- looking set to appear together for the first time since the World Cup.
Rennes, which has been on a strong run this season, riding fourth at the moment, is now plagued with injuries and suspensions, and had suffered a troubling defeat to Clemont in the last game week.

PSG on the other hand was quick to bounce back after a 1-3 defeat to title-chaser Lens, with the returning world champion Messi starring with a goal.
And now with Mbappe returning from his break, PSG’s all-star trio has been realigned, with Brazilian star Neymar returning after a red card-enforced suspension.
The last time these two sides met, PSG managed a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to an Mbappe goal.

No big surprises for either side ahead of a clash in the Eternal City.
AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho opts for Edoardo Bove in midfield but otherwise picks the lineup we expected. Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano welcomes Pietro Terracciano back between the sticks but otherwise picks his expected XI, as Nicolás González still isn’t fit enough to start.
Roma (3-5-2): Rui Patrício; Mancini, Smalling, Kumbulla; Çelik, Bove, Cristante, Pellegrini, Zalewski; Abraham, Dybala
Fiorentina (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Dodô, Milenković, Igor, Biraghi; Amrabat, Duncan; Ikoné, Bonaventura, Kouamé; Jović

The Giallorossi host the Viola looking to win their third straight at the Olimpico.
The 2023 calendar year has started well for Roma, at least in terms of results. While the overall performances haven’t been outstanding, the Giallorossi have picked up two wins and a hard fought draw against Milan at the San Siro. The most recent of those results was a 1-0 win in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 against Serie B side Genoa.
It wasn’t pretty, as despite unfurling 25 total shots the Giallorossi struggled to put the ball in the back of the net. In the end, it was Roma’s most dangerous player, Paulo Dybala, who once again showed why he’s just pure class. La Joya’s first goal since returning from being crowned a World Cup champion with Argentina was all Roma needed in a 1-0 win over the Grifoni.
Roma vs. Fiorentina: January 15th. 20:45 CET/2:45 EST. Stadio Olimpico, Roma.
That win was Roma’s second consecutive home victory of the calendar year after defeating Bologna by an identical scoreline last week. Now, Roma hosts Fiorentina looking to pick up three consecutive wins in all competitions for the first time since the first three home matches of the season. The Viola have tallied just eight of twenty-four points on the road this season and Roma has had plenty of recent success against the boys in purple (8W-1D-1L).
So, let’s take a look at what it will take for Roma to improve its unbeaten run into six straight (all comps).
If you thought Roma’s finishing was concerning, the people of Florence can commiserate, as both sides have had difficulty putting the ball in the back of the net, scoring 21 goals scored in 17 matches.
Fiorentina’s leading scorers,Jack Bonaventura, Arthur Cabral, and Luka Jovic, have three goals apiece. It’s that lack of scoring that sees the Viola sitting ninth in the table with just 21 points. And to make matters worse, Cabral has been ruled out for a month. So, it’ll come down to Jovic and Christian Koume to start at the number 9 position.
Meanwhile, Tammy Abraham scored the decisive goal for the Giallorossi last Sunday to steal a point in Milan. However, that goal didn’t translate to a strong performance in the Coppa Italia on Thursday. Roma will hope that Tammy can get going in this one and add to his league total of four tallies. Otherwise, it could come down to another piece of magic from Roma’s leading scorer—Dybala (5 league goals)—to get the Giallorossi over the hump.
The midfield was supposed to be remedied with the signing of Gini Wijnaldum this summer. However, when the Dutchman went down in training with a fractured leg after just one match, the midfield lost its lynchpin. And the struggles in the center of the park have been well documented since.
Wijnaldum is on the mend, but isn’t ready to return yet, so Mourinho will have to continue to piece things together for the time being. Cristante and Matic has been redundant. Pellegrini has slid back into the double-pivot at times but it hasn’t been ideal. Maddy Camara showed flashes of promise in the autumn, but has been MIA in 2023. Meanwhile, youngsters Benjamin Tahirovic and Edoardo Bove have both gotten starts in the opening weeks of January.
Whoever Mourinho decides to play in the center of the park will have their hands full on Sunday. That’s because Sofyan Amrabat will be patrolling the center of the pitch for the Viola. Amrabat’s quality was on full display in the 2022 World Cup as he was a big reason why Morocco was able to make a surprise run to the semifinals.
Roma’s midfield will have to deal with Amrabat breaking up play and trying to spring Viola attacks with his progressive passing. It’ll be up to whichever duo Mourinho starts to make Amrabat uncomfortable when he’s in possession and be able to take him out of the match defensively with crisp passing.
ROMA (3-4-2-1): Rui Patricio; Mancini, Smalling, Kumbulla; Celik, Cristante, Pellegrini, Zalewski; Zaniolo, Dybala; Abraham.

Jan 15 (Reuters) - Atletico Madrid were held to 1-1 draw by Almeria in LaLiga on Sunday in another disappointing showing for Diego Simeone's team who ended the match with 10 men after Sergio Reguilon was sent off in the dying minutes.
Atletico, who have won only one of their last six LaLiga games, are fourth in the standings on 28 points, level with Villarreal and Real Betis. They are 13 points adrift of leaders Barcelona, who have a game in hand.
Almeria were arguably the better side for most of the match and climbed to 13th, three points clear of the relegation zone.
Atletico started well and Angel Correa gave them the lead in the 18th minute.
Antoine Griezmann dummied, allowing Correa to ghost in behind and score with a left-footed strike between the goalkeeper’s legs.
Atletico had an effort ruled out a few minutes later after Geoffrey Kondogbia touched Marcos Llorente's goal-bound shot over the line when he was standing in an offside position.
Almeria then began to take control and levelled in the 37th minute with a delightful diving header by El Bilal Toure from a long cross by Lucas Robertone.
Toure almost gave Almeria the lead early in the second half but his close-range shot was blocked by a defender near the goalline.
Atletico had two chances to score from counter-attacks but Fernando Martinez made a couple of miraculous saves from point-blank shots by Alvaro Morata and Correa in the 73rd and 75th minutes, firing up the home crowd who were chanting their goalkeeper’s name.
"They grew and scored on their first clear chance in the first half, we kept trying after the break but their goalkeeper had a great performance," Atletico manager Simeone told DAZN.
"We need to be more effective up front. Let's wait for the goals to come, I'm sure they will."
Atletico played with 10 men for the last few minutes after substitute Reguilon was shown a second yellow card for raising his forearm to an opponent's face in an aerial challenge.

PSG look to continue their title charge with a win against 5th-placed Rennes
PSG are on course to win their 11th Ligue 1 title with manager Christophe Galtier making the team play some fast-fluid football. However, they are only 3 points ahead of 2nd-placed Lens (whom they recently lost to) and travel to Rennes who have given them trouble in the past.
The Ligue 1 champions in all likelihood will field Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé for the first time since the World Cup. Messi helped PSG bounce back to winning ways against Angers after their surprise 3-1 defeat to Lens immediately following the start of the new year. They will be hoping to keep their momentum till the Champions League knockout rounds, and eventually see success in both the league and Europe.
However, in Rennes, they find themselves against a tricky opponent. Since Qatar Sports Investment took over PSG, no other club has beaten them as many times as Rennes have (5 times). They are unbeaten in their last 3 home games against the champions and currently have a stellar winning run of 8 games on their own turf. By no means will it be an easy game for the away side.
Rennes XI (5-3-2): Mandanda; Traore, Wooh, Theate, Rodon, Truffert; Majer, Ugochukwu, Doue; Kalimuendo, Gouiri
PSG XI (3-4-1-2):Donnarumma; Ramos, Marquinhos, Danilo; Mukiele, Vitinha, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Bernat; Neymar; Messi, Ekitike
PSG will next face Pays de Cassel in the Coupe de France on 23 January, followed by a home game against Reims in the league on 29 January. Afterwards, they will travel to Montpellier on 1st February.

The latest edition of the North London derby was a tale of two halves, albeit tales that favored one side in both.
It was also a tale of two goalkeepers, but we’ll get to that later.
Arsenal dominated the first half of their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and then showed how tough they can be to breakdown with a stalwart defensive display when Spurs attacked in the second 45.
[ MORE: Tottenham vs Arsenal recap, as it happened ]
That second frame is going to keep Spurs seething for some time, as Antonio Conte pushed buttons that allowed Tottenham to show its quality.
The ensuing enjoyable display also served to be frustrating, as Spurs’ first half was abject.
So who delivered those performances? Read on for Tottenham vs Arsenal player ratings, out of 10.
Hugo Lloris: 3 —Dreadful mistake on Bukayo Saka shot goes down as own goal opener. He’s not the same player this year
Ryan Sessegnon (Off 76′): 5 — Pretty good going forward but gave Saka too much room to operate on the Lloris own goal.
Clement Lenglet: 6 — Quietly effective, especially in possession.
Eric Dier: 5 — Cast the appearances of sound and fury, but very rarely did that reach meaning.
Cristian Romero: 6 — A bit sloppy in the duel but certainly delivered derby defending.
Matt Doherty (Off 71′): 6 — Industrious and far from at fault.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: 7 — Two shots, two chances created, and three fouls drawn. Played his part well enough.
Pape Sarr (Off 76′): 6.5 — Seven recoveries and stuck into double-digit duels.
Heung-min Son: 5 — Did almost nothing until the final 10 minutes of the game. Not good enough.
Dejan Kulusevski: 6 — A busy boy but busy doesn’t have to mean good. Still bright enough to warrant a decent rating
Harry Kane: 6.5 — He’s gotta score, right? if you’re this player on this team in this game. That’s what knocks him down from a 7 or better, because the 4-shot Kane was one of Spurs’ only positive factors in both halves.
Richarlison (On 71′): 5.5 — Disgraceful behavior at the end of the game.
Ivan Perisic (On 76′): 6
Yves Bissouma (On 76′): 7 — Bright.
Bryan Gil (On 88′): N/A
Ivan Perisic (On 88′): N/A
Aaron Ramsdale: 9 — Seven saves including two early in the second half when Spurs were really feeling optimistic of a comeback. A day he won’t soon forget.
Oleksandr Zinchenko: 7 — One of his better two-way games in an Arsenal shirt.
William Saliba: 8 — There are days when Gabriel outshines him but today wasn’t one. Strong.
Gabriel Magalhaes: 7 — Solid. Calm.
Ben White: 7 — Seventeen of his 71 touches were passes into the Tottenham final third.
Granit Xhaka: 7 — Seven recoveries. What a turn in fortune from the Unai Emery days.
Thomas Partey: 8 — Nearly scored the goal of the year while also doing all the ugly and unwanted things he does on a weekly basis.
Martin Odegaard: 8 — What a goal. He’ll go down as Martin the Maestro of a title run if Arsenal does indeed go on to lift the Premier League Trophy.
Gabriel Martinelli: 7 — Credited with four chances created, also picking up a yellow card.
Bukayo Saka: 7 — An assist on the Odegaard goal and the shot that Lloris flubbed into his own goal. Saying that he was otherwise quiet feels unfair.
Eddie Nketiah: 5.5 — On another day, it’s 0-0 and we’re discussing how he was stopped early by Lloris and how five chances weren’t enough to get one past the goalkeeper. Imagine if Gabriel Jesus was healthy today (though Spurs fans are saying the same about Rodrigo Betancur).
Kieran Tierney (On 79′): — 6.5
Takehiro Tomiyasu (On 86′): N/A
Emile Smith Rowe (On 90′): N/A
Fabio Vieira (On 90′): N/A
Arsenal waltzed past Tottenham to not only secure bragging rights in north London but also go eight points clear atop the Premier League table.
Two first half goals were the difference as Hugo Lloris made a huge error to score an own goal after fine work from Bukayo Saka.
Martin Odegaard then finished from distance to make it 2-0 and although Spurs improved in the second half, they couldn’t get past the brilliant Aaron Ramsdale and Arsenal won with ease.
[ MORE: How to watch Premier League in USA ]
Arsenal are now eight points clear of second-place Manchester City, while Tottenham have lost more ground in the top four battle and they are five points behind Manchester United who have played a game less.
This game summed up exactly where Arsenal and Tottenham are at this season. For the Gunners it was all about scoring early, then setting traps for the opponents who had to take risks and then being in control and not making silly mistakes. It is the blueprint for their success and this performance was eerily similar to so many of their wins this season. Arsenal are top of the table at the halfway point and the only thing that will stop them winning the league is injuries and themselves. There is still a long way to go and Manchester City is a juggernaut but there is so much poise, belief and a clear identity about this Arsenal side.
Tottenham also played as they have all season. Sloppy in the first half and much better in the second half. Antonio Conte’s side cannot keep starting games like this but the only thing that can really change is the manager. Their squad is good enough to be challenging for the top four but their recent run has undone all of their good work at the start of the season and finishing above Manchester United and Newcastle seems very unlikely at this point.
At the final whistle the cameras cut to Richarlison who was unhappy with Aaron Ramsdale for something, maybe for celebrating the win too much in front of the Spurs players and fans? Anyway, the camera stayed on Ramsdale and as he and Gabriel celebrated and then Ramsdale went to pick up his drinks bottle behind the goal, a Tottenham fan jump up onto the advertizing boards and clearly kicked Ramsdale in the box. All hell then broke loose as players and staff from both teams got involved and Ramsdale was dragged away as security stepped in.
A Tottenham fan just kicked Aaron Ramsdale in the back as he went to get his drinks bottle behind the goal. Look at this. #THFC #AFC pic.twitter.com/orRQzb3pau

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke to our partners in the UK at Sky Sports about the dominant win: “I loved the way we played, the courage we showed to come here and play how we played. I love when we can make our people happy and tonight I’m sure we made Arsenal fans happy. A terrific group of players but today we went another step. Today it was very pleasing to watch It shows again. Determination and courage is great but then you have to have the belief and quality against a team like this today.”
Martin Odegaard: Majestic display from Arsenal’s silky skipper. Lovely goal and oozed class. Leads by example with his pressing in central areas too.
Aaron Ramsdale: Some great saves either side of half time to keep the shutout. A huge reason why Arsenal are in this position.
Save! Hugo Lloris denies Eddie Nketiah as he comes off his line to block down low.
After that spell of Spurs pressure, Arsenal have managed to wrestle back some control of the game.
Save! What a stop by Aaron Ramsdale. He denies Ryan Sessegnon after a great give and go. It is all Tottenham at the start of the second half.
Save! Kane’s shot is pushed away by Ramsdale. Spurs building pressure.
Close! Second half is underway and Spurs have looked better. Dejan Kulusevski cuts inside and curls a shot a few yards over the bar.
HALF TIME: Tottenham 0-2 Arsenal – That was a very dominant 45 minutes from Arsenal. They pretty much had total control of the game. Spurs are lucky it is only 2-0 and will be hoping for one of their rousing second half comebacks.
Chance! Right on half time Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg whips in a beautiful cross and Harry Kane’s header at the near post is pushed away by Ramsdale.
Spurs just can’t get hold of the ball. Arsenal pressing so high and forcing mistake after mistake. Spurs need the half time whistle to come. Fast. We know how good they are in the second half of games…
GOALLL! Martin Odegaard from long range. Lovely low strike from the Arsenal skipper. No more than the Gunners deserve. They have absolutely battered Tottenham. In total control.

POST! Thomas Partey smashes a volley from outside the box which hammers the post. That would have been a goal of the season contender. Incredible strike. Just before that Gabriel Martinelli with wonderful improvization to get an effort towards goal. Arsenal in total control.
After a few minutes away we are back! Still 1-0 to Arsenal and the Gunners are pushing for a second goal.
The worldwide feed is down for the game right now. We will update you here.
SAVEEE! Brilliant save from Aaron Ramsdale to deny Heung min-Son. He was played in brilliantly but Ramsdale stood tall to deny him.
GOALLLL! Arsenal 1-0 up. Bukayo Saka gets in-behind Sessegnon and he hammers the ball towards the near post. It takes a deflection off Sessegnon and then hits Hugo Lloris and goes in. Horrible error from the Tottenham captain and goalkeeper.
Hugo Lloris somehow puts it in his own net. 🙈

SAVE! Hugo Lloris denies Eddie Nketiah, but only after making a very poor mistake when the ball came to his feet. He put Lenglet under pressure with his pass and the ball deflects to Arsenal, Martinelli hooks it to Nketiah but his low shot is saved by Lloris. Poor from Spurs. Good pressure from Arsenal.
Spurs have started well. Sessegnon is getting plenty of joy down the left flank against Ben White.
KICK OFF! We are underway. What an atmosphere for the NLD. The home fans are properly up for this.
The team news is out and it is very positive for Spurs. Kulusevski is back and starts up top with Son and Kane, while Richarlison is fit enough to be on the bench. Rodrigo Bentancur is still out injured.
Arsenal line up as expected,
Hello and welcome… it is north London derby day! Can Spurs grab a marquee win? Or will Arsenal keep rolling?
Spurs have not lost a home Premier League derby to Arsenal in eight-straight, with only two draws and the last one coming in March 2019. Harry Kane has scored in seven of those matches and bagged Spurs’ only goal in the Oct. 1 loss at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal saw a five-match Premier League winning streak end with a draw against Newcastle last time out. The Gunners could be just two points clear of Man City at kickoff, but they could also have a chance to stretch their table advantage as high as eight. Look for captain Martin Odegaard to come ready for a big moment or three.

For those tempted to write off Erling Haaland’s historically-hot start to life as a Premier League striker, we get it.
[ MORE: How to watch Premier League in USA ]
There is something somewhat dull about knowing the identity of the 2022 Golden Boot winner, the lone curiosity being the final number of his final tally.
Haaland’s Premier League-leading 21 goals has him six goals clear of the next closest challenger: Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
Haaland piled up 20 goals in a single Premier League season faster than any player in history… by seven games (Kevin Phillips of Sunderland did it in 21).
And the later this season goes with him projected so far over the current record, the less chucking is accompanied by marking out the pace (especially considering Haaland will not be beaten up by the World Cup, though he’d surely trade the chance for Norway to be in the tournament). And even though Haaland is currently overperforming his expected goals total, it’s already becoming clear that projecting him for the Premier League record is not farfetched at all.
Haaland may not be likely to hit 50 goals given the schedule congestion to come for Man City, but the Premier League record is very well under assault and that figure isn’t entirely absurd.
Mohamed Salah holds the 38-game season record with his 32 goals scored for Liverpool during the 2017-18 season, while Newcastle’s Andy Cole and Blackburn’s Alan Shearer bagged 34 during 42-game seasons in the 20th century’s final decade.
Haaland also could topple the record for goal involvements (goals plus assists) in a single season, including beating the 42-game record. Alan Shearer put up 47 over 42, while Thierry Henry holds the 38-game record with 44.
Other records that Haaland could legitimately tie or topple:
Read on to see the latest Premier League goal totals for the 2022-23 season, as Haaland looks to claim a Golden Boot in his first PL season.
If it’s the 2022-23 Premier League table you’re after, you’ve come to the right place.

After the break for the 2022 World Cup, the Premier League is back with a bang and the start to 2023 has delivered plenty of fun.
Almost at the halfway mark of the 2022-23 season, Arsenal and Manchester City are looking head and shoulders above the rest though Newcastle is not going away and Manchester United has surged into contention.
The Gunners will have their hands full for the duration of their title challenge, as Erling Haaland continues to take the Premier League by storm with an almost impossible goal-scoring record.
Uneven Tottenham are hanging in the top four battle, while Liverpool is struggling to stay in the Champions League scrap. Chelsea has some work to do while surprising Fulham and Brighton are hanging around on the periphery and are having fine campaigns.

Everton, Wolves, and Southampton currently occupy the relegation places.
But Leicester, West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, and Leeds all find themselves within a few points of the bottom three after a topsy-turvy start.
Below you will find the latest Premier League table.
