Uncertainty surrounds the future of Real Betis winger Diego Lainez, who has been on loan at Portuguese club Braga this season.
According to reports in Portugal, Braga want to cut short Lainez’s stay at the club and send the 22-year-old back to Spain this January. However, his prospects of regular football at Betis are slim.
Lainez wants to remain in Europe, but he doesn’t have many options - so the Mexico international could move back to his home country.
Per ESPN, the player’s camp are not ruling out a return to Mexico, even if it’s just a six-month spell to kick-start his career before trying again in European football.
Previously, Mexican giants Club América and Tigres have both tried to lure Lainez back to the Liga MX, only to be rebuffed.
ESPN also reports that the premature termination of his Braga loan deal has proved a major blow to Lainez’s morale. The youngster had been confident of making the kind of impact in Portugal that he has failed to make at Betis, where he is under contract until 2025.
Since joining Os Arcebispos in August, Lainez has been restricted to just 153 minutes of Primeira Liga football across six top-flight appearances, scoring once.

A new dental school will be located in Heifer International’s current headquarters.
Lyon College appointed Wednesday (Jan. 11) Dr. Burke Soffe of Roseman University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine (CODM) in South Jordan, Utah, as founding dean of the Lyon College School of Oral Health and Dental Medicine,
“We are very excited that Dr. Soffe has agreed to serve as the founding dean of the Lyon College School of Oral Health and Dental Medicine,” said Lyon College President Dr. Melissa Taverner. “His vision for dental education in the 21st Century completely aligns with that of Lyon College and OneHealth, so we believe that we have found the perfect partner to bring our collective vision to fruition.”
Soffe will begin his official duties on July 1 and will serve in an advisory capacity for the next few months as Lyon College pursues accreditation with the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
He currently serves as assistant dean for faculty development and curriculum at Roseman University CODM. He has served as a full-time faculty member at Roseman University CODM since January 2013 and previously served as director of curriculum, director of clinical education and clinical practice team leader.
Dr. Soffe also practiced in a private clinic in Virginia for five years before joining Roseman CODM.
Soffe has a Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine in Las Vegas. He also holds a Master of Education in Curriculum Design from Western Governors University and a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Virginia University.
“I was intrigued with the idea of joining Lyon College to develop not just a stand-alone dental school, but also a dental home safety net for the entire state that includes partnerships with local dentists and clinics,” Soffe said. “As founding dean, I look forward to addressing the oral health needs of the underserved across Arkansas. I look forward to the school improving oral health literacy, access to dental care, and enhancing the efficiency of dental education with a focus on quality, person-centered care. I also look forward to working with state and local officials, organized dentistry, dental industry stakeholders, and dentists across the state to understand their professional needs and develop partnerships.”
Lyon College announced in March 2022 it would develop dental and veterinary schools in Little Rock. In late November, the Higher Learning Commission Institutional Actions Council approved the college’s requests to offer the Doctor of Medical Dentistry and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional degrees.
The college is preparing to submit accreditation applications with both CODA and American Veterinary Medical Association’s Council on Education early this year. Pending the accreditors’ approvals, inaugural classes could start as early as 2024 or 2025.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Naomi Osaka in recent months and now the former world No 1 has dropped her biggest news yet after announcing she is pregnant.
Osaka confirmed last week that she will miss the first Grand Slam event of 2023 at the Australian Open, with no explanation given for her absence.
Now she has delighted her fans by announcing she is pregnant and has vowed to return to tennis when she has given birth.
Posting a picture of her pregnancy scan on her social media platforms, Osaka sent this message to her army of fans around the world.
“The past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that it’s the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun,” she wrote.
“These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to.
“I realize that life is so short and I don’t take any moments for granted, everyday is a new blessing and adventure.
“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, “that’s my mom”, haha.
“2023 will be a year that’ll be full of lessons for me and I hope I’ll see you guys in the start of the next one cause I’ll be at Aus 2024. Love you all infinitely.”

The news has been greeted with joy by Osaka’s fans, who have been fascinated by her relationship with partner and American rapper Cordae since the couple got together in 2019.
Osaka and Cordaw are reported to have met at an NBA game in Los Angeles, where they hit it off.
“I just remember seeing that there were so many people who wanted to take a picture with him,” Osaka told GQ.
“And I just thought it was really cool how friendly and welcoming he was with everyone.”
Osaka endured a difficult 2022 on court and ended her season in September after pulling out of a second-round match of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.
She had won her first-round match at that tournament when Australia’s Daria Saville withdrew after one game with a knee injury.
Osaka has won only one completed match since May and was beaten in the first round of her three previous tournaments, including the US Open.
In her social-media post, the Japanese star suggested she would be able to compete in next year’s Australian Open.
Osaka has tasted success twice at Melbourne Park in 2019 and 2021 but exited in the third round to Amanda Anisimova last year.
She has also spoken out in recent years about her battles with mental health issues and withdrew from key events as she needed time away from the spotlight.
Osaka becomes the latest tennis player to take a break from the game after confirming she is pregnant.
Germany’s three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber revealed her pregnancy in August, suggesting she will return after giving birth, while former world number three Elina Svitolina is expected to make her comeback this year after giving birth last October.
Serena Williams took a break to give birth in 2017 and returned later the same year, continuing to play before retiring in 2022.
Now Osaka will be looking to join the list of tennis players who have thrived on court after becoming mothers.

Naomi Osaka is pregnant — and says she could be returning to the tennis court next year.
Osaka shared the news, along with a photo of a sonogram, and messages, in both Japanese and English, on social media Wednesday afternoon.
"I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I'm looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, 'that's my mom,' haha," Osaka wrote.

The 25-year-old tennis star rose to prominence after defeating Serena Williams, one of the most influential players on the court, in the U.S. Open Final in 2018. Osaka's subsequent victories in the Australian Open in 2019, the U.S. Open in 2020 and the Australian Open in 2021 quickly cemented her as one of just a few players to ever win their first four Grand Slam tournaments.
But the highest-paid female athlete in the world publicly opened up about her struggles with mental health after pulling out of the 2021 French Open. After announcing she wouldn't take part in required media appearances, officials fined her $15,000 — and threatened to expel her from the tournament.
And after losing in the 2021 U.S. Open, Osaka announced that she would take an indefinite hiatus from tennis. Many athletes publicly praised Osaka for openly sharing her struggles with mental health.
"I honestly don't know when I'm going to play my next tennis match," Osaka told reporters in a news conference. "I think I'm gonna take a break from playing for a while."
The announcement on Wednesday also comes days after Osaka said she would not be appearing in the 2023 Australian open. However, in the social media post, Osaka confirmed that she is expected to compete in the Australian Open in 2024. It'll be Osaka's first appearance on the court since competing at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last September, when she withdrew due to illness.
Osaka also reflected on the time she's taken off from the sport. In May, Osaka announced that she would be launching her own sports agency. Osaka also wrote a children's book that was released last month.
"The past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that its the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun," Osaka wrote Wednesday, adding that the months-long hiatus led to "a new love and appreciation for the game I've dedicated my life to."
Osaka has been in a relationship with Grammy-nominated rapper Cordae since 2019. The two reflected on their years-long relationship, including meeting for the first time at an LA Clippers game, in a 2021 spread for GQ.
"I feel like he actually really helped me win just, like, keeping up the motivation," Osaka told the magazine, while reflecting on the support he gave her while she quarantined for the U.S. Open in 2020.
On Wednesday, Osaka concluded her note saying: "I don't think there's a perfectly correct path to take in life but I always felt that if you move forward with good intentions you'll find your way eventually."

A never-ending story. After Juventus and Inter (both 27), Torino is the team we have faced the most in our history in the Coppa Italia, 24 times in fact. San Siro is about to experience the 25th chapter of this 'rivalry' in the national cup, the third in the last four seasons as well as the sixth in the Round of 16. The Rossoneri will play in front of the home crowd again after Sunday's draw with Roma, with only one objective: to book their place in the next round. The match kicks off at 21:00 CET, here is our preview of the clash.
AT MILANELLO
Three days after the 2-2 draw in the league against the Giallorossi, the team return for their season opener in the Coppa Italia. It is expected that, given the busy schedule, Coach Pioli will be able to make some changes to the starting line-up from Sunday. There should be room for De Ketelaere either from kick-off or at some point during the match, as well as Adli, Pobega and Vranckx in the midfield, Dest and Gabbia in the back line. Junior Messias, who has been absent from previous matches with a muscle problem, should return to the list of available players.
Tommaso Pobega spoke to Milan TV on the eve of the match: "Our objective is to win this competition. We have unfinished business with Torino from November. We will have to be better, more precise and more focused than them. We were disappointed to draw with Roma but we want to start again with the positives from that game".
TORINO
Jurić's Granata are come into the match off two consecutive league draws, first against Hellas Verona and then Salernitana, both ending 1-1. During the last game, the Croatian coach was hit with the injury of Valentino Lazaro: a "high-grade injury of the medial collateral of the right knee". The Austrian's absence, in addition to those of Ola Aina, Ilkhan and Pellegri, reduces Jurić's available list of widemen to just Singo and Vojvoda. Torino have already made it through two rounds in the Coppa Italia: 3-0 against Palermo on 6 August and 4-0 against Cittadella on 18 October.
WHERE TO WATCH AC MILAN ON TV
AC Milan v Torino will be broadcast in Italy on Canale 5 at 21.00 CET. On the Rossoneri's social channels, however, the match will be available on Milan TV's Matchday, available on Sky (channel 230), as part of the DAZN schedule or Amazon Prime Video Channels subscription for €3.99 per month with a fifteen-day free trial. Live coverage will start at 20.15 CET, running through to kick-off. At the end, there will be time for interviews and Coach Pioli's press conference.
Coverage also from 20.55 CET on AC Milan's Twitch channel, with Live Reaction in the company of Lollo. Don't miss the coverage on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, acmilan.com and the AC Milan Official App.
COPPA ITALIA
In charge of our season opener in the competition will be referee Antonio Rapuano from Rimini, who has already recently crossed paths with the Rossoneri in their away match in Cremona, which ended 0-0. He has had three previous encounters with the Granata, all in Serie A: one win, one draw and one defeat.
The Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia began yesterday with Inter 2-1 Parma. After AC Milan v Torino, Fiorentina v Sampdoria (18.00 CET) and Roma v Genoa (21.00 CET) are scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday 12 January). Next week on Tuesday 17th at 21.00 CET, Napoli face Cremonese, and Thursday 19th will see the last three matches take place: Atalanta v Spezia (15.00 CET), Lazio v Bologna (18.00 CET) and Juventus v Monza (21.00 CET). The winner of AC Milan v Torino will face the winner of Fiorentina v Sampdoria away on 1 February.
