PA ) Britain’s King Charles III will lead the royal family in a poignant procession behind the coffin of his mother when it travels to an Edinburgh cathedral to allow the public to pay their respects.
Queen Elizabeth II will be taken from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to nearby St Giles’ Cathedral where her family, and a congregation drawn from all areas of Scottish society, will attend a service of thanksgiving for her life.
Full details about the royal mourners have yet to be released but there is speculation the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the new Prince and Princess of Wales, who on Saturday put on a united front during an appearance at Windsor Castle, will be part of the group.
Charles will lead some of the royals on foot, expected to be the Duke of York, Earl of Wessex, Princess Royal and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence – while the Queen Consort and other members of the monarchy will follow in cars.
Members of the public will be able to view the coffin to pay their respects for 24 hours before it is taken to London ahead of a period of lying in state.
Later in the evening, the King and other members of his family, likely his siblings, will mount a vigil at the cathedral in honour of their mother.
Charles and Camilla are in London, but before leaving for the Scottish capital they will visit Westminster Hall where both Houses of Parliament will express their condolences to the new monarch and his wife, and the King will give his reply.
During his day in Edinburgh, the King will inspect the Guard of Honour at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, before attending the ceremony of the Keys on the forecourt.
At the Palace, the King will hold audiences with the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, followed by an audience with Alison Johnstone, the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament.
Words of sympathy will be expressed by the Scottish Parliament when Charles and Camilla attend to receive a motion of condolence, with the King replying.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Katsina State, Sen. Lado Danmarke, has said that the state will enjoy better security and good governance if he is elected in 2023. Danmarke, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Sunday in Katsina, called on the residents to remain calm as the state would be peaceful if he is elected.
According to him, the current security challenges in the state are worrisome, noting that a PDP government will come up with better strategies to solve the problems.
He said the way the present APC administration in the state was handling the security situation showed that it was not capable of ending the problem.
Danmarke said that the previous PDP government in the state had done a lot in moving the state forward, saying that his administration also had such intention.
He said that they had introduced strategies to the present administration of Gov. Aminu Masari on how to tackle the insecurity, but it failed to adopt the measures.
“I wish to inform you that God willing, the strategies we have on ground to end the security challenges in Katsina are going to succeed, hopefully, within our first three months in office,” he said.
According to him, the PDP is aware of the huge loans collected by the present administration, but lamented that it has done nothing with the money.
He stated that repayment of most of the loans collected by the government would not commence until after 2023, while expressing pity for the next administration.
Danmarke stressed that there were many ways of generating revenue, instead of amassing loans.
He called on aggrieved APC in the state, not happy with the outcome of the party’s primary election, to switch over to the PDP and support his gubernatorial ambition.
The PDP candidate pledged to carry them along, if he succeeds in the 2023 governorship poll.
Danmarke had on Saturday visited the Campaign Office of the immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Mustapha Inuwa, to seek his support.
Inuwa is among the APC gubernatorial aspirants who Danmarke believes is unhappy with the outcome of the party’s primary election.
